if you want to stay at a hotel that is in walking distance to the beach and fisherman’s wharf, then the Portola Hotel & Spa may be the place for you. Our room was on the 5th floor and had a patio, a view of the ocean, and the room was very nice, with two beds, desk, and several chairs. there were chocolate chip cookies for me and some fruit in the room.
The hotel’s seventh floor is the only floor that offers guests all of the amenities, larger guestrooms, breathtaking views of the Monterey Bay, complimentary breakfast, wireless internet and more.
you have to pay $20 or $17 for parking (valet or self) or you can park for free on the street, a block away but have to move your car every two hours.
the spa services are extra, but you can use the swimming pool and jacuzzi…
the Portola Hotel & Spa currently is in the process of achieving the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED certification, and participates actively in several programs dedicated to conserving environmental resources.
there are several wine tasting rooms across the street from the downtown hotel, terranova and wine from the heart, the latter is pet friendly as long as your dog is well-behaved, and they offer boutique wines from the Monterey area. there are also several pet friendly shops in walking distance as well as the fisherman’s wharf, beach, restaurants, a movie theatre and maritime museum.
Del monte shopping center is five minutes away.
The hotel has recently become pet friendly and will be offering pet
amenities and a pet package that was not yet implemented while we were there. Apparently, you will be given pet amenities upon request…
# Pet Accessories on Request
* Pet Beds
* Leashes
* Water & Food Bowls
You can also request a special package such as whale watching or movie tour…
