Channeling your furry friends

Join a variety of eccentric pet personalities as they host shows that offer insight into the secret lives of their four-footed best friends.

Whether your pet is a furry feline or rugged reptile, you can enjoy hilarious pet programming that includes domestic animal advice from a tiger, style tips from a snarky iguana and curated cat videos provided by an internet junkie cat. Petsami also provides viewers with an interactive experience by allowing them to upload their own videos to the channel, create captions for different videos and even vote on whether cats or dogs are cuter.

In addition, renowned pet expert Laura Nativo and celebrity Carrie Ann Inaba are onboard to create fun shows for audiences around the world.

The channel launched with six shows, including:

  • CuteWinTail – Similar to the format of FishBowl’s incredibly successful CuteWinFail, each episode of CuteWinTail presents three clips and lets audiences decide which is the “most epic” as it applies to the world of pet and animals. Each week, an episode ends with “Pet of the Week.”
  • Leash Line – Leash Line is a weekly news magazine show, profiling true stories of amazing animals from around the world. Its host, Monkey, is the proud pet of Emmy Award Winning Reporter Lu Parker, who also serves as executive producer.
  • One Minute Meerkat – This weekly show examines what Meerkats are really saying, translating their thoughts through extremely complex technology. It turns out Meerkats are very similar to humans and each week is just as relatable as the next.
  • Ask a Tiger – A weekly support show hosted by Sabin the Nepalese tiger, who offers domestic pets advice based on his expertise from the wild. Sabin also provides comedic user-generated clips to serve as examples of animal-human interaction.
  • KlipKat – From her Venice apartment, internet junkie KlipKat shares her take on favorite cat clips and invites users to submit LOL speak captions for them. The highest rated user captions are featured in the next episode.
  • How2BCute – Hoshi the Hamster, Ivanna Iguana and Gus the Guppy are the G.H.I. (think Statler and Waldorf). They are too cool for school and spend their time each day, interacting with users and influencers with snarky, yet entertaining comments.

pit bull bans going bye bye

No more pit bull discrimination in Ohio…

Ohio Governor John Kasich (R) signed on the dotted line, making Ohio House Bill 14an official law. HB 14 is a piece of legislation that will create a new and more refined system for defining a dog as potentially dangerous, removing the American Pit Bull Terrier and other “Bully breeds” from the list of automatically “vicious” dogs.

http://dogtime.com/pit-bull-discrimination-ends-in-ohio.html

Michigan and Ontario Canada are in the works, too…

http://www.clickondetroit.com/community/Pit-bulls-removed-from-Mount-Clemens-dangerous-animal-ordinance/-/2207168/8864914/-/ym11q8/-/index.html

IN A VOTE TO BRING BACK THE PIT BULLS TO ONTARIO, THE LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY OF ONTARIO VOTED IN FAVOUR 51 TO 26 ON HERSHEY’S BILL!!!

‎”Ontario is now one step closer to repealing this egregious law; just this week the state of Ohio became the fiftieth and final state in America to overturn breed specific legislation. While BSL was a common perceived solution to the media hysteria surrounding dog attacks around the world, jurisdiction after jurisdiction have repealed this legislation because studies showed it was an ineffective solution.”

Miami-Dade is next

http://www.change.org/petitions/help-slater-buehrle-save-pets-in-miami-end-the-pit-bull-ban

Florida pit bull friends… This morning House Bill 997, which would repeal the breed ban in Miami-Dade County, passed out of the State Affairs Committee! There’s still a long way to go, but this is a tremendous leap forward.NEXT STEP: The Florida Senate Budget Subcommittee on Criminal and Civil Justice Appropriations will hear their version of the bill (SB 1322) on February 28, so please email the following legislators and politely ask them to support it: bogdanoff.ellyn.web@flsenate.gov joyner.arthenia.web@flsenate.gov bennett.mike.web@flsenate.gov evers.greg.web@flsenate.gov

By: BSL News: What You Can Do to Fight Bully Breedism

Miami-Dade County is the only county in the entire state permitted to engage in canine profiling. Florida state legislators Representative Carlos Trujillo and Senator Jim Norman are leading an effort, with the help of Best Friends Animal Society, to right this injustice and to repeal the portion of the Florida statute that allows Miami-Dade to kill dogs simply because of their appearance.

No other county in Florida is allowed such unmitigated power over people’s pets. It is time that Miamians again enjoy the same right that citizens in Florida’s 66 other counties have.

Despite being over 20 years old, Miami’s canine profiling still causes the needless, senseless and unjustified confiscation and killing of hundreds of innocent dogs every year, proving that breed discrimination does not make communities safer, and is impossible to enforce. It’s also a waste of tax dollars. Nowhere else in Florida can certain breeds of dogs be summarily killed simply because of their appearance.

It is time to put an end, once and for all, to canine discrimination in Florida and make the Sunshine State a model of humane public policy.

Denver

We opened Mariah’s Promise as a refuge to take these family pets. Puppies and dogs were abandoned in parks and on the streets of Denver. There were posters placed around Denver to contact Mariah’s Promise. One thing that came to our attention was that people would have friends call because they thought we were a sting operation to locate pit bull dogs in Denver and turn them in. How sad!

Neighbors turned neighbors in, and friends turned against friends. People watched as dogs were carried to animal control trucks. Children cried and screamed as their dogs were being carried off. It was frightening.

When people tried to fight back, law enforcement was called in or had accompanied animal control. If people refused to surrender their dog, animal control would step aside, and law enforcement would step up to offer to arrest them, take them downtown and charge them with harboring a pit bull – a charge that imposed a $999 citation. And animal control would get the dog anyway. Sigh…

As an example of the media slant, in June 2005, CNN sent a film crew out. They spent seven hours filming. The film crew was excited and thrilled to watch the dogs run and play in the yard or laze in the house. They went into each kennel and filmed the dogs. The result: In a five-minute segment, they used about 45 seconds of the film of dogs at Mariah’s Promise playing. In the rest they preferred to use pictures of dogs fighting, the scarred faces of children, dogs terrified in shelters, etc.

What Every Dog Deserves……From A Dog’s View

Here in this house… I will never know the loneliness I hear in the barks of the other dogs ‘out there’. I can sleep soundly, assured that when I wake my world will not have changed. I will never know hunger, or the fear of not knowing if I’ll eat. I will not shiver in the cold, or grow weary from the heat. I will feel the sun’s heat, and the rain’s coolness, and be allowed to smell all that can reach my nose. My fur will shine, and never be dirty or matted.

Here in this house… There will be an effort to communicate with me on my level. I will be talked to and, even if I don’t understand, I can enjoy the warmth of the words. I will be given a name so that I may know who I am among many. My name will be used in joy, and I will love the sound of it!

Here in this house… I will never be a substitute for anything I am not. I will never be used to improve peoples’ images of themselves. I will be loved because I am who I am, not someone’s idea of who I should be. I will never suffer for someone’s anger, impatience, or stupidity. I will be taught all the things I need to know to be loved by all. If I do not learn my lessons well, they will look to my teacher for blame.

Here in this house… I can trust arms that hold, hands that touch…knowing that, no matter what they do, they do it for the good of me. If I am ill, I will be doctored. If scared, I will be calmed. If sad, I will be cheered. No matter what I look like, I will be considered beautiful and known to be of value.

I will never be cast out because I am too old, too ill, too unruly, or not cute enough. My life is a responsibility, and not an afterthought. I will learn that humans can almost, sometimes, be as kind and as fair as dogs.

Here in this house… I will belong. I will be home.

Planet Dog EATS hit the spots

Cici loves her cookies… and I love giving her treats that are good for her, wheat free and eco friendly.  But Cici can be picky about “healthy” snacks and will sometimes sniff her nose and walk away. But NOT the new Planet Dog EATS. Planet Dog EATS hit just the right spots for me and my polka dot girl. Cici loves the crunchy munchy texture and would eat a whole box in one sitting if I let her do so.

Planet Dog EATS is a line of premium and healthy dog treats made by their new local baking partner, Polka Dog Bakery in Boston, MA. The rough, crunchy surface and composition of the new treats supports daily tartar control. Made in the USA with all-natural ingredients, Planet Dog EATS  are playful bone-shaped treats that easily break into smaller pieces for portion control and for placing inside all sizes of Orbee-Tuff toys.

There are three ways to use Planet Dog EATS:

Praise good behavior… Good dog!

Play: Insert into interactive toys

Perform: They can also be used with Planet Dog’s new On the Go Snack Sack® for “ready-to-reward” ease.

Planet Dog EATS are wheat, corn and soy-free and contain no wheat gluten.

The new line features two flavors: Chicken & Pumpkin Pot Pie and PB & J.

The Chicken & Pumpkin Pot Pie Flavor treats naturally support digestion thanks to the high fiber content found in Pumpkin. It is also a natural remedy for stomach ailments, including constipation and mild diarrhea.  It is packed with beta carotein, high in vitamins C, K and E and an excellent source of potassium, magnesium and iron.  Feeding pumpkin to a dog can help lower their risk of cancer, cataracts and heart disease.  And because it is low in both fat and calories, it is an excellent food substitute for dogs with weight restrictions.

INGREDIENTS: barley flour, rye flour, chicken, pumpkin, canola oil, ginger.

The Chicken & Pumpkin Pot Pie treats also feature Ginger, a perennial herb that has potent anti-inflammatory properties, stimulates digestion and enhances the immune system.  Research has shown that ginger lowers blood cholesterol by reducing cholesterol absorption in the blood and liver.

The PB & J Flavor treats offer powerful antioxidants thanks to real Maine blueberries and peanut butter.  Blueberries can help reduce the risk of cancer, heart disease and digestive problems and they are also a great source of fiber.  The presence of brain stimulating vitamins in blueberries can help keep senior dogs sharper, while copper, zinc and iron help boost and maintain a healthy immune system.  Peanut butter is also loaded with antioxidants as well as protein and basic carbohydrates.  The peanut oil in peanut butter contains omega fatty-acids which help reduce bad cholesterol that can lead to heart attacks and strokes.

INGREDIENTS: barley flour, rye flour, peanut butter, blueberries, cinnamon.

Planet Dog EATS are sold in a recyclable, 12-ounce virgin craft cardboard box. You can buy them online at http://www.planetdog.com, by calling Planet Dog toll-free at 800-381-1516 or at retailers nationwide.

Happy first Woman for President’s Day

with all of the uproar because of the GOP’s Back to the Past 1950’s agenda, think it is only fitting to talk about having a woman in the White House… from Marlo Thomas about women and power… she asks… “America has never leapt over that final gender barrier by electing a woman to our highest office — and the interesting thing is, so many countries around the world have achieved that equality.

Why not us?”

I would LOVE to vote for a woman for President… Elisabeth Warren comes to mind…  would love for there to BE a woman for President…

Pit bull is not a breed of dog, there are numerous breeds all lumped together and called pit bull…American Pit Bull Terriers, Miniature Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers, Staffordshire Bull Terriers, American Bull Dogs, Bull Terriers or mixed breeds that have the appearance or characteristics of one of these breeds…

Many people have never met a pit bull and could not pick one out of a lineup such as this…can you?
