Registered Pet Offender

Do you want a Registered Pet Offender to become President of the USA ?

“The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.”
― Mahatma Gandhi

Romney’s treatment of his dog Seamus  is evidence of his callous disregard for others. He dismisses the dog and he dismisses people.

How about a Job Killer?

He says that he is going to fix the economy and create jobs?  Let’s see…

“The last six months of the Bush administration, we lost three and half million jobs. We know this about Mitt Romney: He’s not a job creator. When he was governor of Massachusetts, they were 47th out of 50 in job creation. His experience is in downsizing, outsourcing jobs and bankrupting companies and walking away with a lot of money for himself.”

Making Abortions Illegal DOES NOT CREATE JOBS

Creating BIG government while touting small government.  Is everything he says the  OPPOSITE to what he DOES/MEAN????   Etch a Sketch… can you believe anything he says???

Bill Maher:  “Mitt knows the Secret… The success or failure of his campaign will depend upon his ability to convince someone making $26,000 a year, that he Mitt, a rich guy, knows how to make them rich, too. And if you elect him, he’ll tell you The Secret. It’s not a political platform. It’s a wealth seminar… But the Secret turns out to be that he is rich because he is robbing you… Obama was a community organizer helping poor people. What would you rather do, help poor people or have money in your mouth.”

GOP on How to Fix the Economy

The Rachel Maddow Show

Asked what they want to do with the country if they win the White House and keep/get more power in Congress, Republicans say they want to return to Bush/Cheney circa 2006.

And gee, remember what George Bush did? He Gave us the Great Recession.

“Just how stupid does Mitt Romney think we are? If you’ve been following his campaign from the beginning, that’s a question you have probably asked many times.

“…Mr. Romney constantly talks about job losses under Mr. Obama. Yet all of the net job loss took place in the first few months of 2009, that is, before any of the new administration’s policies had time to take effect. So the Ohio speech was a perfect illustration of the way the Romney campaign is banking on amnesia, on the hope that voters don’t remember that Mr. Obama inherited an economy that was already in free fall.

“…Mr. Romney is essentially advocating a return to those very same Bush policies. And he’s hoping that you don’t remember how badly those policies worked.

“…70 percent of public job losses have been either in Texas or in states where Republicans recently took control.

“…Basically, the G.O.P. has blocked the administration’s efforts to the maximum extent possible, then turned around and blamed the administration for not doing enough.

GOP War on the World

oh yes, let’s go back to the good ol days when Bush trashed the economy by stealing from the poor to pay the rich and let’s see who created the deficit…

Jeb Bush: “Sure, I’d Be Mitt’s VP. A Bush on the Ticket Would Show Voters #Romney Is Fully Aligned w/the Crappy Ideas that Led to Disaster”

Lizz Winstead ‏ @lizzwinstead

Paul Ryan & Co are the ones declaring war on religion by expecting churches to cover the cost of everything he wants to cut.

GOP love spending other people’s money, their creed… spend/steal YOUR money, hide their own overseas.

“Within a decade, Bain Capital padlocked the mill and put 750 people out of work and forced taxpayers to pick up the bill for unemployment benefits and worse, for $44 million in pensions which had been earned, but Bain Capital refused to pay. Bain Capital made out well, though, with a profit of $12 million and $4.5 million in consulting fees. In 2001, the steel company declared bankruptcy.

…Romney and Bain Capital specializes in low-wage jobs. The jobs at his three “success stories” are causing many to be among the working poor, earning just $9.00 per hour, a pay rate that would qualify many for government assistance. Even worse, many people are hired as part-time employees with inconsistent schedules, leaving them unable to find additional work.

…Their true agenda is to make the rich richer and the working class poorer, even further burdening the taxpayers, while ensuring that the upper echelon of taxpayers won’t have to pick up the tab.”

http://www.addictinginfo.org/2012/04/15/how-mitt-romney-ruined-countless-lives-and-helped-create-the-welfare-state-video/

Romney’s history working for Bain capital, Killing Jobs.

“I like firing people,” said Romney.

So the bottomline is that Mitt Romney and the GOP are counting on YOUR stupidity and amnesia in order to win the election. And they’re making it difficult, if not impossible, for Democratic voters, women voters, Latino and black voters to vote.

Time to shape up poochie mama

despite going on a car ride with her new boyfriend the adorable Harley the other day, Cici has had it with her derelict mama…

a short list of my crimes

well, during the trip to the store, I had the audacity to go shopping/get out of the car without her…she whined while Harley sniffed her butt… apparently for most of the time I was gone…afterwards they had a pee contest

every time she fixes upon me that stare that means she MUST go out for a walk, then follows it up with a low grunty/whiny/growl, and lastly puts her chin on my knee to let me know that she is serious, my demerits pile up  (will I get detention, or have to take a time out?)  I do not get any credit for opening up the door for her many times a day and she either does nothing or goes out, sniffs the air and then comes back inside immediately without doing any business (I am expected to be her personal door opener, comes with the job description so it does not count)

then, of all the nerve, I expect some room on the bed to sleep when she has commanded the entire space for herself to spread her paws out… dang, what does a polka dot princess have to put up with around here?

and whenever roomie/owner leaves the house, without her, and certainly not with her permission, that is my fault, too.

what’s a polka dot princess’ mama to do besides feeding her hot dogs, chicken, and turkey that I cook for her, (instead of feeding her dog food which she does not want to eat the last few days), giving her unlimited belly rubs, petting her head, scratching her butt, praising her, playing with her and attending to her every whim?

that’s why she pays me the big bucks…

and oh by the way, it occurs to me that it is our 5th anniversary of being together, since I rescued her from the meanies…

but I better shape up or she may be in the market for a new mama who will treat her every wish/whim as a command to be followed immediately…

Dog Mama Requirements:
  • Gourmet personal chef
  • Writing/Editing and Computer Skills
  • Big butt for being a comfy pillow
  • Follows the canine handbook/rulebook to a T
  •  Savvy door opener and cookie dispenser
  • Knows every whim, command means ASAP (fluent in canine nuance)
  • Mastered K9 accents, sniffs and dialects
  • Pushover/marshmallow heart
  • Must obey in sickness, health, for richer or poorer
  • Ignores dog hygiene (dogs baths are stupid)
  • Performs magic tricks (such as making treats/cookies fall from the sky)

in the meanwhile… I seriously thought one of her spots came off the other day…so when I saw this, LOL…

Happy Vicktory dog day

On April 25th, 2007, police served a warrant in Surry, Va. The day before, Michael Vick’s cousin, Davon Boddie, was arrested on drug charges and listed the house as his address. The police and animal-control officers found 66 dogs and what appeared to be a dog-training complex of dark-painted buildings in the woods just behind the house owned by M. Vick. Police obtained another warrant and seized the dogs.

This photo is of the dogs rescue from the property. Thankfully, there were people who began the fight for the V Dogs lives. And thus began the journey for a collective group of dogs who would change the perception people had of pit bulls and fighting dogs and the laws that would one day open doors for countless dogs worldwide.

It all started on this day in 2007.

Happy 5th year anniversary to all of the Vicktory dogs, their pet guardians, foster parents and trainers, all of the folks who have loved them and been with them every step of their amazing journeys… BadRap, Best Friends, Our Pack, Monterey SPCA and others, the dogs could not have made it without ALL OF YOU.

http://vdoglittleengineblog.blogspot.ca/2012/04/fifth-anniversary-week.html

If you have not read the book about these dogs, it is time to honor the dogs by getting a copy of The Lost Dogs by Jim Gorant and reading it or giving it as a gift to your local shelter, a friend or loved one. This book will warm your heart and uplift your spirit. Yes, there are a few rough paragraphs to get through. But in the end, the story is one of tremendous courage, triumph and spirit. Against all odds, despite PETA and the Humane Society and others insistence that the dogs be euthanized, most of the dogs have not only survived but are thriving in homes with other dogs, cats, children and continue to inspire others. Eight of the dogs have become therapy dogs, visiting sick people and reading with children, have won awards and given the key to the city. A few of the dogs have passed onto the Rainbow Bridge. Some of the pet guardians do speaking engagements and events. And a few have rescued other pit bulls who needed love and homes, too.

For Audie, Cherry, Danimal, Ernie, Frodo, Georgia, Ginger, Grace, Halle, Hector, Iggy, Jasmine, Jhumpa, Jonny J, Leo, Little Red, Mel, Oscar, Red, Squeaker, Stella, Teddles, Uba, Ziggy  and all of the other brave dogs…

Oscar just passed his CGC. He is an official Canine Good Citizen and is now eligible for adoption (has a pending home).

What have you learned from these survivors of cruelty? How has this landmark case influenced your views on evaluating victims of cruelty? What have these dogs taught you about the importance of “seeing the dog, not the story?

darling companion freeway dog

Looks like a cute new dog movie… gotta love Diane Keaton…

In Darling Companion, Beth (Diane Keaton) saves a bedraggled lost dog from the side of the freeway on a wintry day in Denver.  Struggling with her distracted, self-involved husband Joseph (Kevin Kline) and an empty nest at home, Beth forms a special bond with the rescued animal.  When Joseph loses the dog after their daughter’s (Elisabeth Moss) wedding at their vacation home in the Rockies, Beth, distraught and angry with Joseph, enlists the help of the few remaining guests (Dianne Wiest, Richard Jenkins, Mark Duplass) and a mysterious woman (Ayelet Zurer) in a frantic search.

Over the course of several days searching, the emotional and physical toll starts affecting everyone as their mountain adventure takes them in unexpected directions – comic, harrowing, sometimes deeply emotional and, ultimately, towards a new understanding of love.

scoop on Patrick hearing

Patrick’s Legal Update on 4/23/12: NJSPCA filed multiple animal cruelty charges in March of 2011 against Kisha Curtis. The charges against Curtis were upgraded to more serious charges and the prosecution of the case than was shifted over to the Essex County Prosecutors Office. There have been numerous delays and postponements but the case continues to move forward. Many Defendants request PTI but the odds of Kisha Curtis being successful requesting PTI are very low. NJSPCA will continue to stay focused on the Prosecution of Kisha Curtis and will continue to work with the Essex County Prosecutors Office to that end. NJSPCA also appluads the statements made by Judge Cassini that Patrick is well taken care of and “That Patrick survived is a miracle” and that “Patrick has bonded with his caretakers and his environment” Strong words for a strong dog… Please focus on the animals. Capt

well, it seems that AHS has been busy getting in the way with more papers filed still trying to get their greedy paws on Patrick… but the LOVE prevails…

To All: No progress with the Kisha Curtis Criminal case today as the time was spent on AHS’s third (3rd) Brief / Motion that was filed about one month ago, again seeking custody of Patrick. As with the first two requests this was also denied by the Judge who ruled it premature. Patrick will continue to stay with the Scavelli’s until the conclusion of the Criminal case and at that time the Court will rule on Patrick’s permanent custody which the NJSPCA believes should be the Scavelli’s. The next Court date will be posted here when we get it. Capt

from GSVS Hospital

Patrick will remain in our foster care pending the outcome of the criminal case. The Judge in his decision today said that he was satisfied that Patrick was doing well and had no intention of changing his foster care placement at this time.

Judge Cassini on Patrick’s case: “If it isn’t broken, don’t try to fix it…”

http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/2012/04/judge_patrick_the_pit_bull_hap_2.html

an anonymous source said,

I thought that you all would appreciate knowing some things from the hearing today.

Some of you may have seen the report on NJ News 12 tonight, but from my notes…

The Judge said, at the outset, that he would not discuss the criminal case today, but instead, would focus on AHS’ petition for possession of Patrick. KC was not in the courtroom.

Harry Levin (AHS’ attorney) acknowledged that, since there has been no adjudication in the Curtis matter AHS’ petition for possession of Patrick is “premature”, but asked that AHS be given an opportunity to hold an “inspection” of Patrick “by experts, to ensure that his circumstance is satisfactory”.

The assistant prosecutor was very strong, and argued that the state is satisfied that Patrick is being well cared for, and that since AHS is not a party to the criminal matter they have no right to inspect Patrick or his circumstance.

The Judge read, for the record, his synopsis of the case thus far, which included the words “Kisha Curtis is still the lawful owner of Patrick” (which is, sadly, the truth). But the Judge also said “I found that AHS does not have any possessive interest in Patrick”. (Happily, that is also the truth, and his finding was upheld by the appellate division).

The Judge also said that it is clear that Patrick is “loved” and well cared for, and that there is “no evidence” that Patrick is in any jeopardy and no reason to believe otherwise. The Judge further said that to allow an inspection of Patrick by AHS would be to “interfere with the custody of Patrick”.

The Judge then said “The question here is about AHS’ fidelity and integrity…what is the nature of AHS? It was a miracle that Patrick survived and is in excellent health, happy and healthy. Patrick is living a life that AHS should hope for every pet. My belief is that if it is not broken, don’t try to fix it”.

I hope that what happened in court today will give you all, as it does me, continued reason for optimism. The assistant prosecutor was excellent, and the Judge is clearly sympathetic to Patrick as a living being. The Judge sees Patrick as more than just “property”, of that I am sure.

and meanwhile, Kisha Curtis wants a pre-trial intervention

Planting Seeds

Remember back in the 60′s when the hippies wanted to live in peace on the land, in self-sustaining communities and the establishment made fun of the dirty hippies lifestyle? True, there were a lot of druggies. And people got distracted. Nowadays, we hear similar remarks about the Occupiers. Bringing the message that Inequality exists is a gift from the Occupy Movement. Birthing a new awareness. And optimally, creative new ways of making changes happen.

In my humble opinion, that is not going to happen with the focus on protesters and police battles. The Occupy movement can (and some are) bring their energy and enthusiasm to local communities and making needed changes (ie, helping people unfairly being foreclosed, stay in their homes).  What interested me initially about the movement was the lifestyle … walking the talk… this needs expansion and creative solutions. Forget about camping out and doing battle. Instead, little changes add up to BIG ONES.

a little bit of history of the roots of capitalism

…”Using Adam Smith’s own estimates of factory wages being paid at the time in Scotland, a factory-peasant would have to toil for more than three days to buy a pair of commercially produced shoes. Or they could make their own traditional brogues using their own leather in a matter of hours, and spend the rest of the time getting wasted on ale. It’s really not much of a choice, is it?

But in order for capitalism to work, capitalists needed a pool of cheap, surplus labor. So what to do? Call in the National Guard!

…If having a full belly and productive land was the problem, then the solution to whipping these lazy bums into shape was obvious: kick ‘em off the land and let em starve.

…“Poverty is therefore a most necessary and indispensable ingredient in society…It is the source of wealth, since without poverty, there could be no labour; there could be no riches, no refinement, no comfort, and no benefit to those who may be possessed of wealth.”

 http://truth-out.org/news/item/8612-recovered-economic-history-everyone-but-an-idiot-knows-that-the-lower-classes-must-be-kept-poor-or-they-will-never-be-industrious

could this Great Recession (what is so great about it?) be a systemic, entrenched way of dealing with the masses?  hmmmm…

Two other powerful items passed my desk this week… now I know about Monsanto and their seeds…and Monsanto free seeds

GMO foods/seeds

I now understand why I cannot get raw healthy goat’s milk nor fresh farmers eggs, it’s ALL politics… why have healthy empowered citizens when you can make money off of sick, overweight, uneducated, wage slaves.

“Americans’ right to access fresh, healthy foods of their choice is under attack. Farmageddon tells the story of small, family farms that were providing safe, healthy foods to their communities and were forced to stop, sometimes through violent action, by agents of misguided government bureaucracies, and seeks to figure out why.

Filmmaker Kristin Canty’s quest to find healthy food for her four children turned into an educational journey to discover why access to these foods was being threatened. What she found were policies that favor agribusiness and factory farms over small family-operated farms selling fresh foods to their communities. Instead of focusing on the source of food safety problems — most often the industrial food chain — policymakers and regulators implement and enforce solutions that target and often drive out of business small farms that have proven themselves more than capable of producing safe, healthy food, but buckle under the crushing weight of government regulations and excessive enforcement actions.

Farmageddon highlights the urgency of food freedom, encouraging farmers and consumers alike to take action to preserve individuals’ rights to access food of their choice and farmers’ rights to produce these foods safely and free from unreasona-bly burdensome regulations. The film serves to put policymakers and regulators on notice that there is a growing movement of people aware that their freedom to choose the foods they want is in danger, a movement that is taking action with its dollars and its voting power to protect and preserve the dwindling number of family farms that are struggling to survive.

Radical Idea: What if women’s work, ALL work, were VALUED, respected and compensated properly???

“Why do women who contribute by producing the whole workforce have to plead for maternity leave that would allow them to recuperate from childbirth, get to know their children and their children to know them, and feed babies the best possible food?

“Why are such basic and humane demands so controversial? What qualifies those who favor formula to deny the overwhelming evidence and individual personal experience that favor breast milk?

“The wealth of information assembled here also strengthens the case for acknowledging women as perhaps the greatest producers of food. The individual production and one-to-one delivery of breast milk often goes hand in hand with subsistence farming on small plots of land “too small to count,” perhaps with a few chickens, a goat or cow, and individuals’ endeavors day in day out which benefit mainly those with little political clout or social status. Entire communities are surviving on that work—up to 80 percent of the food consumed in Africa is grown by women almost all outside the market. Are those of us who spend long hours of every day in this work also “too small to count?”

…Between breastfeeding and agricultural work, women are feeding the world!

http://womensenews.org/story/books/120414/work-breastfeeding-moms-unwaged-unvalued

…Cruel, unsustainable factory farms have come to produce more than 99 percent1 of the animals grown in the United States. Globally, livestock now cover 30 percent of the earth’s surface,2 and as a result of modern fishing techniques, scientists are measuring an overall drop in the health and diversity of ocean life. During this same period, these new farming methods have devastated rural communities by reducing the number of farmers in the nation by 85 percent—even as the U.S. population more than doubled.3 Given this scale, it is no surprise that the choices we make when we eat and produce food have a bigger impact on animal suffering, global warming,4 and other major environmental concerns than anything else we do.

Change Needs to Happen

“A group of politicians led by Rep. Pete Stark of California are taking Mitt Romney at his word—that “all moms are working moms”—and plan to introduce an act that would allow mothers receiving welfare support to count their childrearing duties as the required “work activity” until the child turns 4. Stark told Ryan Grim at the Huffington Post that the Women’s Option to Raise Kids Act (WORK) arises naturally from the Republican presidential candidate’s stated positions:

“Mitt Romney was for forcing mothers into the workforce before he decided that ‘all moms are working moms,’” Stark told The Huffington Post. “I think we should take Mr. Romney at his most recent word and change our federal laws to recognize the importance and legitimacy of raising young children. That’s why I’m introducing the WORK Act to provide low-income parents the option of staying home to raise young children without fear of being pushed into poverty.”

cats and kittens are TOO cute and if you are an animal lover, there is something else you should know about Mitt Romney (besides his fat catness)… even if this story is not true, there is the one about his dog Seamus, which is true (Romney drove 12 hours to Canada with his dog on top of the car the entire way and still does not see anything wrong with that)…

war on mommies

Romney is not in favor of equal pay for women and did not even know what the Lily Ledbetter Equal Pay Act was (Obama signed it into  law, first bill he signed as President)…

http://www.bookmark-manager.com/permalink-99

According to George Carlin,

“Pro-life conservatives are obsessed with the fetus from conception to nine months. After that they don’t want to know about you, they don’t want to hear from you . . . no neo-natal care, no day care, no head start, no school lunch, no food stamps, no welfare, no nothing!”

besides, the USA spends MUCH MORE MONEY on war and corporate welfare/subsidies to corporations who pay NO taxes than on welfare and other social programs. Yet all we hear is talk about Welfare, Social Security and Medicare like they are some big fat paycheck and fast ride to the good life…when the average citizens PAYS into these systems (and gets denied and receives a pittance and works while receiving this assistance and still cannot feed their kids) AND we PAY for Greedy Corporations who take our jobs overseas and refuse to pay taxes…(hoarding trillions of OUR dollars)…

and the difference between US and the rest of the civilized countries???

and neither party treats parenting as work

not to mention how Romney and Bain Capital destroyed the economy

http://www.addictinginfo.org/2012/04/15/how-mitt-romney-ruined-countless-lives-and-helped-create-the-welfare-state-video/

and his lies, etch a sketchiness flip flops on any given topic, double standards, and and and and…

“how well is society served when valuable resources are spent on a yacht complete with golf course, submarine, beach, and helicopter, and which qualified for a second-home mortgage deduction? Or on a $250,000 playhouse for the kids?  (Or in Romney’s case $100 million given to his kids without paying the gift tax)…

Studies show that increased wealth is correlated with a lesser degree of empathy for others. Despite their dependency on society for everything else, the super-rich have apparently earned the right to live in their own privileged world.

http://www.commondreams.org/view/2012/04/16

how much money have the Romneys donated to help others???? imagine if all or even a few of the gazillionaires donated 10% (tithe) to helping feed kids, homeless, seniors, animals, infrastructure (teachers, fire, police, bridges, roads, etc), JOBS, ALL would be SOLVED. why do the millionaires have to wait for the buffet rule to pass to GIVE? why not SOLVE a problem???  Money meet Mouth…

Do we Americans value Substance, Character and Humane Justice and Freedom for ALL or those who look good on the outside, are full of worldly riches and bankrupt inside without morals or empathy/compassion???????   That is the question…

and what does all this have to do with dogs? WE humans impact our world including the lives of our pets and the animals on this planet. So what do you value????

“If you can’t provide these things for a baby, you should think about getting a dog instead. But of course, dogs are mammals like us, and also become neurotic when they don’t get their needs met. Dogs and children are alike this way. If a dog’s or child’s needs have been neglected early on and they develop irritable personalities as a result—no one will want to be around them.”

Blog the Change: the cat’s meow

Cici and I love finding out about innovative and creative programs created by people with hearts such as these.

Did you know that there is an app that allows people to play with cats at shelters in real time online for free… Adoptions increase and cats get socialized…

“We still get lots of interest in the iPetCompanion. It’s really popular with everyone and it’s a highlight of our shelter tours. We love it.”
~ David Lytle, OHS, 21st July 2011 (10 months after launch)

Bideawee, New York

“I think it gives people at home or at work on their computer a great way to feel connected with live animals and in this digital age people really yearn for companionship and connection. When I travel I wonder all the time what’s happening at home with my cat, is he getting along with the pet sitter, are they having fun? And with a mechanism like this I could actually see my own pet at home in real-time.”

~Nancy Taylor, President & CEO, Bideawee

But for some reason, there does not seem to be an equivalent app or program for dogs. No playing fetch online? Enrichment programs at shelters.

There are also dog rescue heroines, one lady rescues homeless people and dogs in the LA area and provides a safety net so that people do not have to surrender their dogs

Dog owners sometimes come into the South LA Shelter because they feeling forced to surrender their dog.  Most of the time the dog owner can’t afford to feed, vaccinate, spay/neuter, treat a minor medical issue, get basic obedience training, or even pay for a $15 dog license.  With Safety Net, LA Animal Services staff and volunteers encourage the dog owner to take their dog home, and call the Downtown Dog Rescue phone number on the postcard given to them.  When the dog owner calls the Downtown Dog Rescue Hotline Phone Number a volunteer will return the call within 48 to help address the situation that brought the dog owner to the shelter.
