Shorty Rossi and Hercules (the pit boss and his pit bull) were on jeff probst and so were Cesar Millan and his pit bull, a few pit bull puppies were in the puppy bowl last week, plus several ads showing cute pit bulls including Subaru dog ads, and then there was the pit bulls rescued from a dog fighting operation and the pit bull photo that went viral of one of the dogs rescued who was in this woman’s arms and clearly happy/blissful…so much happy pitbolian news…
I have some more news to announce for pit bull owners, but one will have to wait for a bit… while it gets ready to hatch… meanwhile, tonight is Pit Bulls and Parolees, always amazing and Pit Boss, I just wish that Tia was not on so late, because I fall asleep, but they did have last week’s full episode on the web, so I caught up, and what an episode, oh my dog…it starts off pretty ugly, but remember the title of the episode… sheeesh… always makes me cry… here it is below…
Mark Buehrle takes a stand, will live alone, because of Ontario’s cruel pit bull BS ban… shows the cruelty, that he cannot live with his family because his dog is discriminated against…but good for him and his wife for speaking out against BSL…
Imagine a child born to parents who treat their child as a meal ticket. Parents who make money off of their children. Parents who force their children to fight for their lives every day of life. Parents who keep the children unsocialized, tied up in the backyard, hidden with a heavy chain on their necks, unable to escape. Parents who allow their girl children to be raped at a young age so that they produce more children to be abused. All of the children are terrified, angry and traumatized, some become out of their minds. And one day someone kind comes along and sets the children free and puts the parents in jail. Are the children sent to jail, too? Should the children be killed for being too mean? This is the life of too many pit bulls… and yes, they can be likened to abused and neglected children. When given the love, socialization and care they deserve, they are good dogs. Who is responsible for a child or a dog? Who should be held accountable the child, the dog or the parent?
And Breed Specific Legislation takes innocent children/dogs out of their homes, puts them in doggie jail and kills them because they MIGHT become violent some day. That is like saying one day your child with red hair is going to become a dangerous criminal. Why? Because they have red hair. So with all of the media and political hype and hysteria, you decide to round up all of the red haired people and kill them because one red haired person committed a crime in your neighborhood. Does this make any sense???
And in shelters all across this country (and world), the off spring aka the dogs are held accountable for the wrongdoings of the parents/guardians. And the dogs pay the ultimate price. They are killed for being innocent victims of violent criminals. Meanwhile the dog fighters pay a fine and get a little jail time. What kind of system of justice is this? Am all for second chances but when the criminals have more rights than those they hurt, then that is just plain wrong.
the ones who are too aggressive and violent (and mean and cruel) are the dog fighting criminals who make money off of the dogs and treat these dogs like garbage. The dogs like the former Vick dogs when given the love and care they deserve become therapy dogs (8 of the former Vick dogs) and just plain regular family dogs (many of the former Vick dogs live with kids, other dogs, cats and more). Jail and punish the dog fighters NOT the dogs. Do we send kids who have been abused to jail or do we send child abusers to jail? The adults are the responsible person so why punish the kids???? Remember that scene in the movie Good Will Hunting when the shrink played by Robin Williams tells the boy his father’s abuse was NOT his fault. Rape, child abuse, any kind of violence against a person or animals is NEVER the victim’s fault. It is the abuser’s fault. Just because an abuser has a lot of money does NOT make the abuse right nor should it get them off the hook.
Bless this couple for taking care of fight dogs, the way that they should be treated. There needs to be a lot more folks like this.
Imagine if a pit bull and her/his guardian have their own reality show… maybe it would be too boring for reality TV… no fights, no drama, just lots of fun, loving kisses, goofy antics… am thinking of doing a piece about celebs and their pit bulls as well as every day folks and their pit bulls… a day in the life of an ordinary pit bull and their guardian… and the day in the life of a celeb pit bull and their guardian… if you’d like to be part of this, let me know, thanks.

Shorty Rossi hinted that Hercules will soon be having his own show on Animal Planet but of course, Hercules and Shorty are not exactly your every day pit bull and guardian, definitely, they are celebs. And were just in our neighborhood at the Bay Area Pet Expo. I did not get a chance to go there. Cici and I attended a couple of years ago and it was much too much stimulation for the Polka Dot Princess.
“Pit Boss” star Shorty Rossie and his pit bull, Hercules, are going to be on Anderson Cooper’s Live Thursday’s show!

During the Golden Globes, there was a cadillac commercial with a brindle pit bull
and since pit bulls are still the most euthanized dogs at shelters, it is really important to support Nathan Winograd’s NoKill Advocacy…There ARE more than enough homes for pets who have been dumped in shelters. More and more shelters are getting on board, reducing their kill rates, so that healthy and treatable pets do not get put down just because there is no room at the shelter, they get ADOPTED into loving homes.
The No Kill Conference is offering free registration to municipal shelter directors. Please help enlist them in the mission to save America’s shelter animals. Contact your local shelter director and let them know.
I loved watching the TV series Charmed. And Kaley Cuoco played Billie, a superwitch, who became the Charmed ones friend and helper and for a very short time enemy. Billie and her sister became the Ultimate Power. And of course good won out over evil.
Now, in real life, Kaley Cuoco has THREE rescued pit bulls, one of whom loves a good soak in the hot tub and a dip in the pool to cool off… smart dog… and she brought a video of her pooch with her to share with Ellen DeGeneres…
(Thanks to Robert from Seattle DogSpot for this story and the one about Walgreen’s below)…
and Kaley and her dogs were also on national TV (People’s Choice Awards… cannot imagine Cici being that well behaved, wow, I am impressed
It is wonderful having Pit Bulls and Parolees and Pit Boss back on Animal Planet.
pls let Walgreen’s know u do not want them selling pepper spray to hurt pit bulls, the most abused dogs on the planet…we need stupidity repellent not pepper spray… take the spray and signs off their shelves NOW !!!! seems like Walgreen’s is opening up their company to lawsuits… if ANY crazy person were to spray my dog with pepper spray, I would sue Walgreen’s and the person, LIABILITY ISSUES
Here’s what Walgreen’s are telling people on their FB page: We apologize to everyone about the pit bull spray that was sold at a few isolated locations. We can assure you that this was not a corporately purchased item. It was never our company’s intent to condone the inappropriate singling out of any one breed of dog. Instead, a very small number of our stores obtained it for sale on their own. As a result of us becoming aware of the product, we have told those few stores who are carrying the item to stop selling it immediately. We also will ensure other locations don’t carry it, too. Thank you and be well.
Yesterday morning, Sally was scheduled to be on KTLA, a local news station in Los Angeles, with two adoptable dogs, Gideon and Franklyn (see Franklyn’s video)
Franklyn’s foster lives an hour away and arrived early to be there.
Prior to the day, the producers of the show asked for descriptions of the dogs and were given them.
When they arrived, one of the show producers came out, looked at Franklyn (who was busy kissing a human admirer) and said, “Oh no. We have an anti Pit-Bull policy.”
I calmly told her that we were not informed of this, and had we been, we would have cancelled our appearance as breed discrimination is not something I tolerate, and more so, is against public policy.*
She stated that I could go on with Gideon but not Franklyn. I told her that if Franklyn was not allowed, I was leaving as well, so she went in to talk to another show producer. 30 minutes later in the freezing cold, she came outside to say that they would not allow Franklyn on the air. I explained that this is also a violation of law and that they would have to find something else to fill the spot since there is no way I would support or be in a show that discriminates.
Gideon, Franklyn, and his foster Sally then left.

RedRover
(www.redrover.org), a national animal protection nonprofit based in
California, is bringing attention to the connection between animal
abuse and family violence during Domestic Violence Awareness Month by
offering information about grants available to domestic violence shelters.
According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, more
than 70 percent of pet-owning women entering domestic violence shelters
reported that their batterer had injured, killed or threatened family
pets for revenge or psychological control. As many as 48 percent of
domestic violence victims are unable to escape their abusers because
they fear what will happen to their pets when they leave. Only three
percent of shelters can house pets on-site; a portion provide off-site
housing referrals while the majority of shelters do not offer any
resources at all.
RedRover offers aid to victims of domestic violence and their pets
through the RedRover Relief program. This program provides financial
support for veterinary care and boarding to enable domestic violence
victims to leave their batterers without having to leave their pets
behind, and new in 2012, the program provides grants to domestic
violence shelters to enable them to fund the creation of on-site space
to house pets.
“Sadly, many domestic violence victims stay in abusive homes because
they are afraid to leave their pets,” said Nicole Forsyth, RedRover
President and CEO. “Their pets are often also victims of abuse,
suffering from injuries and neglect. RedRover Relief grants make it
possible for victims to safely escape, reassured that their pets are
protected.”
Donations to the RedRover Relief program have funded critical care and
shelter for animals displaced by family violence. In one case, RedRover
awarded a $300 grant to a woman seeking a protective order against her
husband, who had threatened to drive her cats into the woods and
abandon them. Another applicant finally found the courage to leave her
abusive husband, but said she would sleep in her car before she gave up
her elderly pug. And in another case, a grant from RedRover paid for
two months of boarding for a family’s dog while they sought child- and
pet-friendly housing after fleeing a very dangerous situation.
Increased outreach and greater public awareness on domestic violence
issues have led to a 70 percent rise in applications for the RedRover
Relief program in the last year.
RedRover Relief grants can help family violence shelters include pets.
Founded in 1987, RedRover focuses on bringing animals out of crisis and
into care through a variety of programs, including emergency animal
sheltering and disaster relief services, financial assistance for
urgent veterinary care and humane education. Learn more at www.redrover.org.
“The bill is named after Patrick the Pitbull, a dog that was starved, thrown down a garbage chute and left for dead in Newark in 2011. The legislation was praised by animal rights activists during a committee hearing last month, and it received unanimous support in the Senate today.
“If the bill becomes law, abusing an animal or depriving it of food, water or other necessities would be a fourth-degree crime. It is currently a disorderly persons offense. If the animal dies as a result of the abuse, the crime would be increased to the third degree.
“The law would increase the civil penalty for animal abuse to a fine of $1,000 to $3,000 for a first offense, and $3,000 to $5,000 for a subsequent offense.”
10 Ways to Raise Awareness and Celebrate Pit Bulls
10. Use social media such as facebook/twitter and blogs to show off positive images of Pit Bulls. Post a photo of your Pit Bull in an unlikely pose, playing with a chilld, cat, cute critter or other dog, or being just plain silly.
Educate the media and others…
Kelly Ripa (from LIVE with Kelly and Michael) said on her show yesterday that she is educated on the subject and that ALL pit bulls are dangerous and…”only gang bangers & thugs own them.” Their FB page needs more comments. Go add yours please and show Kelly and Michael some education politely. https://www.facebook.com/LIVEKellyandMichael?fref=ts
Kelly, your pit bull comment was completely incorrect. Negative sensationalized stories and comments about PIT Bulls leads to abuse and death of many loving animals. …for over half a century in between, 1920 to 1970, millions of Bulldogs, Bull Terriers, American Pit Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers and all their mixed breed cousins served Americans well in every possible capacity and circumstance.” The Pit Bull Placebo by Karen Delise.
from dog trainer Victoria Stilwell, Its Me or the Dog show
“Pit bulls can make great family pets in the hands of a responsible owner. Which breed of dog was named ‘most aggressive’ in recent scientific studies? The family Dachshund.”
There are known factors that contribute to dogs of all breeds biting. If the dog is male, not neutered, kept chained or roams loose in a pack, etc.
’The Little Rascals’ Petey was a pit bull.
and
Kelly, from the history of pit bulls and bull dogs…
True fighting dogs do not show any aggression towards humans whatsoever. Human aggression was in fact considered a major fault, so if a dog showed any human aggression it would be destroyed and the line would not be bred from anymore. Handlers were in the pit with the dogs during a fight and would not be so if they thought there was any danger. and oh by the way, last time I looked, am a newspaper reporter, senior, and NOT a gangster or thug.
and
Kelly, you are a mom with kids and a family pet. Imagine one day, police come to your door and take away the dog. You never see the dog again. They are sent to doggie jail and ultimately killed. Why? not because of anything that the dog did but because of the way they look. If this happens to a person, we call it racism, discrimination and bigotry. When it happens to dogs, it is called Breed Specific Legislation aka Breed Discrimination Legislation. Many such bans of innocent dogs have been repealed because it is ineffective, costly and serves only to assuage people’s irrational fears. Pit bulls are not the enemy. Irresponsible owners, dog fighters, animal abusers ARE the ones who need to be fined, jailed and/or punished NOT the dogs who are innocent victims of humans mistreatment.
9. Volunteer or foster with your local pit bull rescue. Give a pit bull a second chance, walk pit bulls at the local shelter, foster, rescue, adopt.
8. Share good news articles, videos, photos and books about hero Pit Bulls like Stubby, talented Pit Bulls like Petey, extraordinary Pit bulls like Wallace, Hector and the other Vicktory dogs and shelter Pit Bulls who need homes
More about the Vicktory dogs, their five year anniversary is on Pit Bull Awareness Day, yay
Did you know that my Daddy is running for state representative? I don’t know what that really means, but everyone keeps saying we could use someone like him up at the State House. You can say hi to him @ www.facebook.com/repstoutz.

3. Join or start a Pit Bull walk/hike group and participate on a regular basis
D-Boy, the dog that took bullets to save his family.
Roberta Trawick was sitting on her couch in her Oklahoma City home in 2009 when an armed intruder busted through her front door and told her to get on the ground. Her 2-year-old pit bull
, D-Boy, then came charging into the room after the intruder, who fired multiple times, hitting D-Boy three times — including two shots to the head — but the dog continued to run after him. The intruder, apparently spooked, fled.“That dog saved my life and my family,’ said Trawick. “Without D-Boy, that guy could have shot me and my family.” The Trawicks had rescued the pit bull from an abusive home just three months before the break-in.Generous people helped pay D-Boy’s Vet bills. He recovered and his owner did not have to worry about paying for his bill.
URGENT: TAKE ACTION TO FREE MEMPHIS
this is a Lennox type Belfast city Council type situation…
The welfare of Memphis should truly be the ultimate goal. There is absolutely no valid or legal reason why Memphis should remain in the shelter one more day or a secret location within the control of the town at taxpayer expense when a highly qualified, loving, experienced, breed savvy family is pleading with the township to bring Memphis back home forever.Allowing Jeff and Diana Coltenback to adopt Memphis is the ultimate win-win situation for everyone—for the taxpayers, for the town, for the Coltenbacks and most importantly, for Memphis.

In this country, as in all countries, we have people with hearts and others who should not be allowed out in public never mind holding public office (in Congress). At the very least, a mental health inspection/test should be required for mayors, Governors, Congress people, Vice President and President. That would eliminate a lot of the riff raff (the entire GOP?) well… people who hold public office should at the very least show empathy, compassion, and just plain human kindness and decency. Real moral values and integrity would be good, too.
to us puppy huggers, the photo below is sweet (and to me even more so since the dog looks like my princess)… say awwwwww… it also confirms that animals/dogs have feelings too as living sentient beings.
What does one have to do with the other? I’m getting there… there are some crazy people in politics/Congress, and running for President, who think otherwise, because there is something decidedly wrong with them, in my humble opinion… no heart, no compassion, no empathy and no human kindness. People who lie and steal belong in jail not in public office.
I so LOVE Colbert, when he NAILS it… in this case, he totally gives Rep. Steve King what he deserves for wanting to allow dog fighting (overturn laws banning dog fighting and the new law banning being a participant at a dog fight)…
Why having SANE people passing bills and governing is important IF you love animals AND if you love people and IF you love our country and the Earth, too.
