Happy Dog Travels

Whenever we travel, Cici has her own bag filled with goodies just for her… these are gotta haves, bring with us items that are crucial for a safe, happy trip. And below, we are sharing some of these items with you.

Some these items came in Cici’s Pet Box (the ones with a *)…a wonderful pick and choose pack filled with items that doggies love and need. One of the things we LOVE about PetBox is that PetBox gives you the option to pack your own box. And the items you have to choose from are not just any old products. They are premium products such as the ones below. Monthly subscriptions … we also love the cardboard box that the items come in. Another cool thing is that for every PetBox purchased, they feed a rescue animal. Oh and cats are not left out in the cold either. There are cat boxes, too.

Here is what makes PetBox unique, compared to other monthly doggie boxes:

All products are made in the US

- Toys and treats are customized by dog or cat size

- When you order a PetBox, it ships within 2 business days

- For every purchase, the company feeds rescue animals with the help of a new partner called Bogo Bowl

Kurgo barrier and safety harness (doggie seat belt)  http://www.kurgostore.com/barriers-and-containment/

Keep Fido in her place

Cici loves to jump into the driver’s seat when I run into the store. I come back to find you-know-who drooling on the steering wheel and getting the front seat all hairy.

Here is where the Backseat Barrier™ comes in. Super stylish, this cloth barrier attaches to the back of your front seats, creating a soft wall between you and Fido…blocking that little space above your center console. She can still sit and peer through the mesh top; you can even reach back for a scratch if necessary. Most importantly, this barrier helps to keep you distraction free while driving, and keeps your pup safely out of the front of the car.

if I had a small dog, I would bring this to carry my dog in:

Sherpa bag

A New Bed Pest

Beware, there is a dangerous Land Shark also known as a Bed Hog, that encroaches upon human beds and takes them over…once this infamous predator takes over, there is little chance for recovery

Photo 329

Once the Land Shark has found its way upon your bed and has its large rocklike butt near to your pillow, by your face, you can try these moves for possible success but do not budge a sliver or an inch or you will lose ground and then ALL will be lost and your place on the bed will be completely confiscated:

1. The push with both hands or wedge an elbow like a crowbar

2. Plop down right on top of the Land Shark with your entire body or your pillow

3. Cover the Land Shark with a blanket

4. Ask the Land Shark to move in a loud voice

The Land Shark has been known to respond in any of these ways:

1. ignores you

2. opens its eyes and looks bemused at your dilemma

3. refuses to budge one inch of space

4. may stand up and sit down in the exact same spot just to confuse you

5. a sneaky new trick is to stick its head underneath yours

If the Land Shark does NOT move away, it is likely that the next stage of infiltration will take place and you will likely experience:

being pawed in the belly region

licked, bathed and coated in saliva

a tail will be wagged directly into your face

a smelly toot sounding from its nether regions will emit directly into your face

If any and all of the above happen, it is useless to try to recover any ground. The bed is NOT safe for human habitation any longer.

Take the proper precautions or this too can happen to you.

Photo on 2014-01-13 at 02.33

Once the Land Shark has landed and taken over your bed like this, they are unlikely to move over any time soon.  And they may hide underneath your blanket to fool you but eventually they will pant and you will know that they are still there.

Good luck.

A Limerick for Cici

Happy Saint Pitties Day…

There once was Cici the mixed Pitty
who lived at the beach, not the city.
She loved to bathe in the sun,
lick farm animal hooves for fun
but don’t ask her to be nice to a kitty!

An original poem by Oz the Terrier; re-posted with permission, in its entirety, as originally posted on www.oztheterrier.com.

Free Fun Ideas for V-day

The average person will spend over $130 on Valentine’s Day this year, according to a report from the National Retail Federation. This amounts to a pretty pricey mid-February evening for those of short on cash.

Happily, there are lots of free things to do this Valentine’s Day that will leave you wondering why you ever paid a premium for fun. Check out the following ideas and be sure to hit up MrFreeStuff.com for a complete list of 60 dates that don’t cost a thing.

Note: And most of these can include your pets, if you choose to bring them along and have them join in on the fun. Or if you are alone with them and want to invite single friends over. All sorts of possibilities.  You can make it a Galentine’s Day or Palentine’s Day or whatever you want !  You could even fundraise with your dog’s kisses for your favorite animal rescue. Smooches from Pooches.

http://www.buzzfeed.com/marcelle/37-dogs-beating-you-at-valentines-day

1. Create a Game Night
Host a game night this Valentine’s Day. Whether it’s a mellow game of Scrabble or a high-intensity round of Texas Hold ‘Em, you’ll enjoy a little friendly competition with your date.  Tug of war, throw the frisbee, ball or chew the stuffed animal works for Fido.

2. Head to the Playground
Skip the pricey restaurant. Have a picnic at home or at the park with lunch meats, cheese, potato salad, French bread and wine. At the playground enjoy some kid-like fun. Compete on the swingset or see who can hold out the longest on the merry-go-round. Chase the dog or have the dog chase you.  Climb the monkey bars.

3. Volunteer Together
Valentine’s Day seems to be all about what you’re doing for your special someone. Why not collaborate and do something for others instead? Soup kitchens, animal shelters and nursery homes could use a few good volunteers, so spend your Feb. 14 brightening someone else’s day.

4. Make S’Mores
Forget chocolate-covered strawberries; s’mores are where it’s at this Valentine’s Day! Roast marshmallows over your kitchen stove, expertly melt chocolate and create a multi-layered, gooey treat. Camp out at home, back yard and toast the marshmallows and chocolate over the fire.

5. Bring the Spa Home
Spas and salons will be brimming with lovey-dovey couples this Valentine’s Day, but you can skip the crowds and create a better experience at home. Gather your candles, towels and favorite CDs and prepare a steamy bath. Complete the experience with a couples massage.

6. Get Touristy
Despite how long you’ve lived in your current city, there are likely several hidden gems you haven’t yet experienced. Stop by the local visitor’s center with your date and inquire about free things to do in your community, then hit the road toward discovery.

7. Host a Movie Night
Host a movie night and ask friends to bring their favorite snack to share. Peruse your DVD collection for a funny or thought-provoking flick and leave the tear-jerkers for just the two of you.

8. Relive Storytime
Open a bottle of wine or pop the top on your favorite brew and settle in for an evening of storytelling. Share passages from your favorite books or pick up your favorite childhood classics from the local library. Once upon a time…

9. Cook Dinner Together
Cooking a meal for your loved one has long been a Valentine’s Day tradition, but why not prepare something together? Challenge each other to create a tasty meal out of items you already have in your pantry and toast to your resourcefulness.

10. Host a Wine Tasting
Tasting flights will cost you a pretty penny at fancy restaurants, but you can bring the experience home for less. Ask friends to bring a bottle of wine and their favorite snack pairing and enjoy an intellectual discussion about tannins and undercurrents.

Born to be Cici

Does your dog dig Enya, Mozart or the Beatles?

2012 study at Colorado State University found that kenneled dogs spent more time sleeping when exposed to classical music and became shaky when listening to heavy metal tunes.

If your dog had a favorite song or signature song what would it be?

I think Cici’s would be Born to be Wild by Steppenwolf, Easy Rider movie… (she loves motorcycles, PEOPLE who ride them and she’s a wild and crazy dog)…

Get your motor runnin’

Head out on the highway

Looking for adventure

In whatever comes our way

Yeah, darlin’

Gonna make it happen

Take the world in a love embrace…

How Many Dogs Does it Take to Change a Lightbulb?

American Pit Bull Terrier…  (my polka dot princess)…   rub my belly and I’ll kiss you and cuddle with you and kiss you and cuddle… after, let’s zoom around the block, roll in the grass, rub my belly, cuddle and kiss… what light bulb?

Golden Retriever: The sun is shining, the day is young, we’ve got our whole lives ahead of us, and you’re inside worrying about a stupid light bulb?

Border Collie: Just One. And then I’ll replace ALL the wiring that’s not up to code.

Dachshund: You know I can’t reach the stupid lamp.

Rottweiler: Make Me.

Boxer: Who cares? I can still play with my squeaky toys in the dark.

Lab: Oh Me, me me, PLEEEEEEEEZE let me change the light bulb. Can I? Can I? Huh? Huh? Huh? Can I, PLEEEEEEEEZE, PLEASE PLEASE?

German Shepard: I’ll change it as soon as I’ve led these people from the dark, check to make sure I haven’t missed any, and make one more perimeter patrol to see that no one has tried to take advantage of the situation.

Jack Russell: I’ll just pop it in while I am bouncing off the walls.

Cocker Spaniel: Why change it? I can still pee on the carpet in the dark.

Chihuahua: Yo Quiero Taco Bulb.

Pointer: I see it, there it is, there it is, right there–RIGHT THERE

Greyhound: It isn’t moving, who cares?

Australian Shepherd: First, I’ll put all the light bulbs in a little circle.

Poodle: I’ll just blow in the Border Collie’s ear, and he’ll do it. By the time he finishes rewiring the house, my nails will be dry.

Terrier: Let me bark at it for a while to see if it really needs changing.

What would your dog say?
