Beware: side effects of rabies shots

Damn, the police sent me a notice that cici’s dog license had expired and needed to be renewed. Along with that, she needed another rabies shot. I did NOT want to get her vaccinated again but did not know what to do. If I ignored the police, would they come to the door and take my dog away? Especially her breed, the whole thing made me nervous and upset and I wanted to run away. Instead, I went ahead, against my better judgement and had the damn thing done.

Found out that the Monterey SPCA has a low cost vet clinic. We went, Cici loves going to the vet, she got a three year shot, 1-2-3 we got her dog license renewed for three years (last year we did not know about the 3 year shot) and voila, it was done…

well, not quite. Now this week, the itchiness that she was already having has gotten much much much worse. She is beyond itchy… scratching, chewing on herself until she bled (in one spot on her rear)…

Amped up giving her the doggy goo, gave her a bath, slathered dr Harvey’s healing cream onto her rear, and poured aloe vera and hot spot oil onto her. Even got her a soft cone to keep her from chewing and scratching.  She is still chewing and scratching MUCH more than before the shot and she is blotchy, with lots of spots all over her fur.  Below, here she is calling Dr Harvey for help…

Photo on 2013-05-15 at 17.39

Also, the soft cone is too small to keep her from doing it… now started thinking about getting her some dog panties… these are cute… what a royal pain though to put them on and off…

Screen shot 2013-05-17 at 4.56.27 AM

and meanwhile, it occurred to me that perhaps her enhanced/increased itchiness had to do with the stupid rabies shot… sure enough, it DOES..

talked to Dr. Harvey about it and he asked why did I do that?  I did not know what else to do.

Dr. Harvey said that Cici getting rabies is about as likely as a big bear coming to dinner… (in other words, no need for a rabies shot because the shots do not prevent rabies anyway)… sheeeeesh…

well, I have three years now… but meanwhile, here are some tips for YOU dear readers… beware vaccination side effects for your dogs. Some are LIFE THREATENING others are a royal pain in the butt…

http://www.dogsnaturallymagazine.com/itchy-skin-wins-big-a-mystery-to-vets/

Animal Control sends a notice stating that your dog’s rabies vaccination is due. Some of us will vaccinate readily. Because it’s legally mandated, it must be safe, right? Besides, what choice do we have?

Others of us panic, desperate to avoid the shot at any cost. We remember what happened the last time our dog had a rabies vaccination. We wonder, will our dog survive another?

World-renowned pet vaccination scientist, Dr. Jean Dodds, wrote recently: “Rabies vaccines are the most common group of biological products identified in adverse event reports received by the USDA’s Center for Veterinary Biologics (CVB).”

An adverse reaction to a rabies vaccine may exact a high price – to your dog’s health and your wallet. Here’s what you need to know to make vaccinating your dog safer:

1. Learn to recognize adverse reactions. Short-term reactions include vomiting, facial swelling, fever, lethargy, circulatory shock, loss of consciousness and even death. (If your pet appears distressed, contact your vet immediately.) Reactions occurring days or months after vaccination can be difficult to recognize. They include:

• Fibrocarcinomas (cancer) at the injection site
• Seizures and epilepsy
• Autoimmune disease
• Chronic digestive problems
• Allergies
• Skin diseases
• Muscle weakness or atrophy
• Pica (eating inappropriate materials, including feces)
• Behavioral changes (aggression, separation anxiety, compulsive behaviors and more)

If you suspect a health or behavior problem may be connected to a vaccine, you may have to convince your vet. It’s common to hear “it couldn’t be the shot” or “a reaction like that is impossible.” Even the drug’s manufacturer (to whom you should immediately report the reaction — giving them the brand and lot# — may deny the connection. Insist on seeing the product’s package insert,  viewable on-line or from your vet. Also know that long-term reactions aren’t usually documented or even studied. Note: a vaccine reaction, especially one supported by your vet, may entitle you to compensation for medical expenses from the drug manufacturer.

2. Vaccinate healthy dogs only. Vaccinating an unhealthy animal can exacerbate illness and do irreparable harm. Also, immunity may not develop after vaccination because of the dog’s compromised immune system. This is especially dangerous as you may presume immunity that does not exist. Pets with autoimmune disease or cancer are obviously “not healthy,” but neither are pets suffering from stress from a move or surgery, a virus or infection, or allergies or skin problems or any other condition compromising health. (Never allow your pet to be vaccinated during surgery.)

3. Ask for a rabies vaccination exemption.  If your dog has documented health problems, ask your vet to apply for a rabies vaccination extension or exemption. Many localities permit them even if state law doesn’t specifically allow them. If your vet won’t apply for an exemption, go elsewhere. You may want to contact a holistic vet who may better understand the dangers of vaccinating an unhealthy animal. If local law forbids exemptions, change the law. Numerous states are in the process of adding exemptions to their laws. Click this link to check your state’s rabies law and pending exemptions.

4. Don’t vaccinate against rabies within three weeks of other vaccinations or medication for parasites. Multiple vaccines given at once greatly increase the chance of reactions.  Multiple vaccines are especially risky for small dogs.

5. Make sure your dog gets the correct vaccine. If you’re vaccinating a puppy, make sure your vet administers a one-year vaccine initially (as late as legally possible) and a three-year vaccine (or whatever is required in your area) thereafter. The one-year and three-year vaccines are virtually identical medically – but not under the law.  A one-year shot must be followed by re-vaccination a year later. Note: the one-year shot is not safer than the three-year (except that it may contain fewer adjuvants).

6. Vaccinate at the safest time. Vaccinate in the morning, early in the week, and don’t leave the area for at least an hour if possible. Watch for reactions for at least the next 48 hours. Reactions occurring when the closest vet’s office is closed can prove disastrous, even fatal.

7. Tell your vet you want a Thimerosol-free vaccine. Thimerosol (mercury) in vaccines has been linked to adverse reactions. Merial, for one, makes one- and three-year thimersol-free rabies vaccines: IMRAB® 1 TF and IMRAB® 3 TF. Make sure you see “TF” on the label. (If your vet doesn’t carry the vaccine, you may have to vet shop to find the vaccine you want.  You might also ask why the vet why he/she doesn’t carry it.)

8. Find a vet trained in homeopathy to vaccinate your dog.  Certain homeopathic remedies given before, during and after vaccinating can lessen the chance of ill effects from vaccination. Click the link to find vet referral lists.

9. Report all vaccine reactions to your vet and make sure they’re recorded in your pet’s file. Have the vet sign relevant pages, get copies and put them in a safe place. (Vets lose records, retire and move away.) Also report the reaction to the drug’s manufacturer. (You’ll need the vaccine lot number.) Vets are notoriously bad at reporting reactions, but exemptions to rabies vaccination and drug safety require documentation.

10. Don’t vaccinate within a week of travel. Pets experiencing reactions on route can die for lack of immediate medical assistance.  (Find a list of emergency clinics by area athttp://www.vetsnearyou.com/ml2/?v=352875029&u=0880F1AAC5EF9BA40210818080F807184B&gclid=CKOmmcXvm6QCFQY-bAodawLaEg  (I cannot guarantee the clinics’ expertise, but at least this is a place to start.)

11. Keep copies of vaccination records and titer tests in your car(s) and license tags on your dog’s collar or harness. Otherwise, you may be forced to re-vaccinate if your pet bites someone, runs away and is taken to a shelter or if you have to board your pet unexpectedly.

12. Do not administer a rabies vaccine yourself. It will not satisfy legal requirements and you’ll have to have a vet vaccinate again. You will also be unprepared to deal with a potentially life-threatening reaction.  Similarly, a vet’s office may likely be a safer place to get the vaccine than a mobile clinic.

13. Support the Rabies Challenge Fund.  World-renowned scientists, W. Jean Dodds, DVM, and Ronald D. Schultz, PhD, are working as volunteers to increase the interval between rabies boosters by proving that the vaccine gives immunity, first, for five years, and then for seven years. (The study is in year four now.) They’re also working to establish a blood “titer standard” to provide a scientific basis to avoid unnecessary boosters with a simple blood test. This nonprofit group is supported solely by dog lovers and dog groups.

Before the next notice from Animal Control arrives, do your homework. A little time spent learning about the rabies vaccine can mean the difference between your dog’s wellness and serious illness.

Note: a veterinarian/author who specializes in over-vaccination issues read this article and wanted to add a few points.  Click here to learn what this veterinarian says about preventing vaccine reactions.

Suggests doing a detox before and after the vaccination… to prevent and/or reduce symptoms

am giving Cici Asea, which helps people and canines and others on a cellular level… these stabilized redox signaling molecules help the cells communicate with one another. As we age, our cells become toxic and we develop diseases. Asea helps to restore the body’s ability to heal itself and each body is different. It is known as a time machine in a bottle… truly revolutionary, I have been taking it for more than three months now… I have more energy, less pain in my knees/legs, and I’ve seen that cuts, burns and wounds heal much faster and itchies go away quicker, too… I spray it on my face and take it internally once or twice a day. Some athletes claim it gives them more endurance; friends of mine in their late 60′s say that it makes them feel younger and takes away the wrinkles and age spots.  I have been spraying it on Cici and it helped with the bloody spot (did not want it to get infected)… and will keep on spraying her and me as well as give it internally.  She does not like it if I pour it into her mouth but she likes it when I spray it into her mouth. Am also getting her some Dr. Harvey’s Shine (salmon oil for Omega 3′s) and chlorophyll and alfalfa and Ester C, all to help her immune system.

Give a bow wow of a paw print lavendar scarf… for the dog mama …  Think Green

this scarf is made in the USA, made of eco friendly fabric and printed with water-based ink… it is soft, shiny, and this company also makes tee-shirts for a cause (endangered species, eat your veggies and other great topics)… tees are made either 100% from organic cotton,  a blend of recycled plastic bottles (RPET)  and organic cotton, or other eco-friendly materials. To make the RPET, recycled plastic bottles are melted down and then processed into a fine yarn which, in turn, becomes a soft and silky t-shirt. They are made with No pesticides, less plastic in landfills.   It takes between 3 to 5 plastic bottles to make each RPET/organic cotton blend tee.  After the bottles are melted, the plastic fiber is blended with organic cotton to give these tees their soft, silky feel. These tees can be washed and dried over and over and they won’t shrink, fade or lose their shape.

Mama’s day weekend in SLO

Mothers day is Sunday May 12… next weekend !!!

What’s cooking for Mothers Day?  Why not take your mom to dog friendly SLO for a week or the weekend?

San Luis Obispo County Has Tons of Dog Friendly Places to Explore

San Luis Obispo is located midway between San Francisco and Los Angeles, and a few hours south of Monterey county. It is known as the Happiest City in America… According to Dan Buettner’s National Geographic book Thrive, “San Luis Obispo has snagged the top spot for happiest people in America.”

Below are some suggestions of dog friendly places to stay and visit while you are in SLO.

Take a dog friendly wine tour in Paso Robles or San Luis Obispo regions with a Breakaway Tours Dog Day Wine Tour.

Mom and dog can learn how to surf at Pismo beach with miles of lovely sand and waves. Amble along the boardwalk, fish from the historic pier, or explore Pismo Beach Monarch Butterfly Grove, which hosts an average 25,000 butterflies per season.

Lunch at the Splash Cafe (try the yummy clam chowder) is a must.

Mom and pooch will feel right at home at a pet friendly oceanfront hotel such as the SeaCrest OceanFront. Ask for their Celebrity Pet Package which includes a pet bed, food bowls, a pet concierge brochure, and a 5 acre lawn area for pets to do their business (with pet waste stations along the way) and direct beach access to the pet friendly Pismo beach.   More info at www.petfriendlypismobeach.com

Take a walking tour of the downtown of the Happiest City, SLO, visit Bubble Gum Alley, the dogs will LOVE the creek that goes through downtown, and dogs are even welcome at the San Luis Obispo Museum of Art. Also, check out the pet boutique Tails for yummy treats for the canines. Other pet friendly attractions include the San Luis Obispo Botanical Gardens.

Healing paws and K9 angels

it’s been a very difficult and challenging week, to say the least… what with events in Boston and Texas and the Senate…we are glad that the lockdown of Boston is over.

now, a dear dog that we all love and his family also had a very tough week… Hector the pit bull… his brother Wallace, if you recall, was diagnosed with cancer and given a few months to live awhile ago. Wallace has now lived seven months beyond the diagnosis and the cancer is in remission. That is the good news. However, Hector, struggles with babesia, an illness several of the former Vick dogs are dealing with. He just overcame a bout of it but now he has a swollen mass on his spleen which could be cancerous or benign. It’s complicated…

Here’s the update. “We postponed surgery. This is not a simple decision at all. My vet has been working tirelessly to come up with the best solution, but it’s pretty complicated. Yes, I have a mass on my spleen. It could be hemangiosarcoma or some other cancer; It could be a hematoma. If they remove my spleen and it’s cancer, I probably won’t have long to live. If they remove my spleen and it’s not cancer, I will have a very difficult battle against my babesia which could also take my life. Usually dogs can live fine without a spleen, but I really need mine. There’s a chance they could save some of the spleen, but that is unknown. Without a spleen, I could stay on a babesia treatment for the rest of my life, but that could give me bad side effects. There is the option of not doing surgery, treat the babesia, and hope that the mass is related to the babesia and it will heal on its own, but without knowing what the mass is we risk it rupturing again. There aren’t a lot of cases like mine.”

The Yoris and the vet decided not to do surgery to take out his spleen at this time. He has gone home with meds.

We pray that Hector’s spleen is healed and his health improves miraculously. We send his family lots of love and light.  Paws and fingers crossed for canine angels.

Please keep Hector and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

Saving Pets lives

wow, now that is an animal SHELTER Coordinator who cares about animals…at an open door facility on Kauai, Hawaii…Brandy Varval wanted to lessen the euthanasia rates and

she realized that these healthy happy rare breed dogs were not going to get adopted at the shelter so she has asked people to fly the dogs to the mainland as escorts…75 dogs so far … have flown from paradise into HOMES…

seems to me that Brandy went above and beyond the call of duty to save dogs lives… now what is your shelters excuse and how can you help them in going above and beyond to save pets lives?

jobs for shelter dogs?

LAX is hosting a pup cuddle-fest for stressed passengers on April 15. “The PUP program (Pets Unstressing Passengers) a new customer service initiative designed to unstress passengers and take the hassle out of traveling. The program revolves around passenger encounters with one of over several dogs of all types throughout LAX areas such as boarding gates, baggage claim and ticketing lobbies etc.”

AC Pup: Adoption is the Word

“AC PUP” NAMED NEW MASCOT FOR HOMELESS PET CLUBS

Atlanta-founded nonprofit has placed more than 10,000 animals in loving homes across 18 states

549187_513612935344418_981901008_n

AC Pup, a four-year old mixed breed “celebrity” in Macon, Georgia, will work in communities nationwide to spread the word about animal issues and enlist support using his network of more than 10,000 Facebook followers.

Founded in 1998 by Atlanta veterinarian Dr. Michael Good, Homeless Pet Clubs are free-to-establish and give students, civic leaders and business owners a way to share their love of animals by promoting animal rescue, responsible pet ownership, adoption of shelter animals and animal welfare. There are currently more than 300 clubs and more than 50 rescue partners across 18 states.  Together with parent organization, The Homeless Pet Foundation (HPF), Homeless Pet Clubs has placed more than 10,000 animals in loving homes over the past 10 years.

The partnership between Homeless Pet Clubs and AC Pup utilize the dog’s social media popularity to inform, educate and persuade community members to actively engage in networking to find homes for all adoptable pets.

Rescued as a four-week old puppy after being abandoned and exposed to freezing temperatures, AC Pup has served as mascot for Macon-area nonprofit Central Georgia CARES for four years. His duties include spreading CARES’s mission of emphasizing, among other beliefs, the need for spay/neuter of pets, the elimination of animal abuse and the inclusion of humane education in school curriculum.

AC Pup’s mascot responsibilities also include penning weekly columns for The Telegraph, a McClatchy newspaper and quarterly articles for Southern Styles magazine.  Written from the perspective of a rescue dog, AC Pup shares photos of adoptable pets and was recently named Animal Grand Marshal for the Cherry Blossom parade held during Macon’s enormously popular Cherry Blossom Festival.

To learn more about Homeless Pet Clubs, AC Pup or to get involved or start a club of your own, please visit www.homelesspetclubs.org.

To follow AC Pup on Facebook, please visit any of his three profiles – https://www.facebook.com/acpup,https://www.facebook.com/ac.pup.9 or https://www.facebook.com/ac.pup.1.

ABOUT HOMELESS PET CLUBS

in your dog’s Easter bonnet

Does your pooch have an Easter bonnet or gift basket? Whether or not you celebrate Easter or Passover or whatever holiday or not, you can still have some fun with an Easter Egg dog hunt on Sunday, March 31… can be for treats, bones, toys, whatever gets your dog in the mood for fun…dogs love finding treats in the grass so why not give them some special time and treats to hunt for. Cici loves to sniff the grass at the park near our house every day and she comes up with all kinds of awful surprises. This could be a fun way to channel your dog’s inner sleuth in a positive way.

An Easter outfit with bonnet is optional, but here’s how to make a costume if you must

http://www.ehow.com/how_2156787_make-easter-outfit-dog.html

441335056_a0073fd87f

http://www.dogguide.net/blog/2008/03/happy-easter-from-the-dog-guide-dogs-dressed-in-their-easter-best/

Your back yard or closest dog park or even a room in your home can suffice to be the place where your doggie will sniff out his prizes… If you want to take photos of the event, you probably should take them before the treasure hunt unless you want some photos of your dog with their goodies and their costume off.

Suggested prizes:

an Easter bunny stuffed animal

a hardboiled egg or two

small bits of cheese cut up into squares

a bone (deer antler perhaps)

a few cookies (homemade or others)

chicken or turkey jerky or bits of hot dogs

some kibble thrown around in the grass

If your dog is a seder dog who celebrates Passover, the treats can be appropriate to that holiday. For instance, bits of gefilte fish, tuna, and/or salmon.

Popular Easter treats like jelly beans, marshmallow chicks and chocolate eggs can upset your dog’s tummy and make them sick.  DO NOT give any dogs chocolate treats since chocolate is toxic for dogs.

544660_10151376662484094_466492146_n

If your dog is a piglet like Cici, do not toss out too many treats for your pooch to consume or they will eat all of it and then still want to eat their meals. These treats can replace one meal that you normally feed them.

On a larger scale, this can make a great charity fundraiser for your local pit bull rescue or shelter and an adoption event, to boot. For a community dog hunt, use plastic eggs and put the treats inside the eggs for the dogs to find. Have someone dress up as the Easter Bunny so pet guardians can take photos with the bunny and their pooches. Be creative. Offer fun dog activities such as agility, a parade, some donor booths filled with goodies and food for humans and pooches. Sponsors from the local community who donate will get Free publicity and a tax write off.

Please let us know about your event at home or in the community and send us photos of your dogs in bunny ears/outfits.

Below is one event taking place in the Sacramento area soon…

Free e-books for dogs

Have you ever considered how far you walk with your dog? If you walk just 15 minutes a day you will have walked far enough in your dog’s lifetime to cross the United States. With all that walking ahead of you, aren’t you ready for a new place to take a hike with your dog?

To help canine hikers find the perfect trail this spring Cruden Bay Books has introduced its print series of 21 guidebooks to hiking with your dog around the United States in ebook format. While walking the dog, we bring along generous helpings of local history, botany, geology, architecture and more. Check out the selection here.

All Doggin’ America! ebooks sell for $4.99 but can be downloaded for free from Kindle between March 20 and March 24.

What makes a great place to take your dog hiking?

Well, how about a paw-friendly surface to trot on? Grass and sandy dirt are a lot more appealing than asphalt and rocks. A variety of hikes is always good – long ones for athletic dogs and short ones for the less adventurous canine. Dogs always enjoy a refreshing place to swim as well. For dog-friendly parks our guides describe the trail options for your dog, evaluate park traffic from other users, tell you whether you will need a guide dog to find your way around and, of course, tell you how to get to the park.

Check out the Best Dog Beaches in America where Dogs are Allowed…

Dogs are a woman’s best friend

549792_312324515557247_1996789945_n

It does not take a genius to figure out that dogs can bring companionship, comfort and a good reason to exercise into your life. They will protect you from harm and stand by you during hard times and weather. For those of us who are single women, who are coming home to an empty home or apartment, it is comforting to be greeted by a bunch of wet kisses and tail wags. Someone there to greet you and make the world a friendlier place to live. A best friend. And it also is great to have a travel companion who is always ready for adventure.

But here are a few more benefits that having a dog when you are single can bring.

1. Dogs ARE unconditional love. Guys lie, cheat, steal and break  your heart. Not ALL guys but there are some real FROGS out there in the single universe. And despite our starry eyes and rose colored glasses, when we overlook BIG RED FLAGS (our friends and family usually don’t but how often do we listen to them?) and inherent warts and flaws, we are going to have trouble with a capital T. But your puppy will sniff out trouble and LOVE you always even if you leave her alone to go out on a date with a creepy frog.

2.  Dogs keep you active, young and fit. You do not always want to exercise. That is a massive understatement. You get home from work, before work, on the weekends, you just want to kick back and DO NOTHING, remain or become a couch potato. But when you have a dog, you MUST walk them several times a day.  And you may even take them for hikes and swims on the weekend, so that they get to zoom around. In the process, you get those endorphins flowing too. If you have a Jack Russell Terrier, Golden Retriever or other big dog, they are going to give you a workout like you have never had at a gym.

3.  Enhance your single life. At the dog park, traveling with your dog and all around town, you are going to attract and meet other people. People with dogs. Cute, single guys with dogs. Other women with dogs. All kinds of people with dogs. You will even get to know your neighbors. You have something in common and naturally have a topic of conversation. Much better than awkward encounters at bars, cruises, dances or blind dates. Even if you spend most of your life online, you will meet other people with dogs, especially if you write a dog blog and get involved with pet groups, blog hops and other activities on Facebook, Twitter and elsewhere.  And who knows, Prince Charming just might have a dog, too.

4.  Your dog is a good judge of character. Canines cannot help themselves. They are gregarious and social creatures. And they do NOT think twice about flirting with and going up to total strangers with a friendly tail wag and kisses. Your dog may be just the right magnet for meeting men, the kind of men who are reliable, loyal, faithful and good catches. Just the kind of men you want to MEET.  Now some of them may be married guys but some will also be single. And guys can’t lie about their looks, when you meet them in person.  You will still need to be selective but our dogs know the difference between good people and ones with nefarious motives. So if your dog likes the guy, (or growls every time she sees him), you might want to take notice and either give the guy the benefit of your doubts or stay far far away or give them the boot.

5. Dogs just want to have FUN. They love to have FUN and adventures and will get you OUT of the house and to the beach, park, pet friendly winery, and shopping mall. You no longer have to settle for meeting men online, through friends, and at desperate single places (speed dating, ugh). You and your dog are going to experience all the fun activities that your town and city have to offer and then move on to other places. As traveling companions, you will get to know all the HOT spots and great places to meet truly eligible single men just by following your dog’s nose. Canines are so good at sniffing out the good ones. And what red-blooded man can resist talking to a woman eating with her dog at an outdoor patio or a woman and her dog romping at the beach. Your dogs will like one another. You will meet someone mature and responsible enough to take care of another creature, someone who have share something in common with, a kind soul, a kindred soul and the rest will be ahhhhhh romantic history.

c

6. Love is a many splendored dog. Your dog’s breed may be a Heinz 57 pound pup or shelter dog, but if your dog belongs to a recognized breed, even if they are mixed (two recognizable breeds), you have something in common with a bunch of folks who also have dogs of a particular breed. Strike up the band to meeting pug lovers, daschund hounds and/or pit bull aficionados and your match may truly end up in doggie heaven. If your guy loves animals, is kind to animals, and has a dog that looks just like your dog, you could even win a contest (for two people who look just like their dogs and fell in love). And you might just meet at a pug conference, rescue operation or pug show/event. Is that Kismet or Pugmet or what?

7. Your dog will eliminate the frogs for you. A frog who is just out for a romp in the sack is not going to like sharing his bed with a dog, offer to take care of your dog when you are sick or on vacation, or deal with canine comes with the territories such as shedding, rolling in poop, barfing and/or other stinky adventures, never mind understand why you are worried about your pooch and need to get them to the Vet ASAP, or FIND THEM if they are LOST. If the guy is mean to your dog in any way, hurts your dog, abuses your dog, RUN DO NOT WALK AWAY (and call the Police and press charges). If he wants you to get rid of your dog, take them to the shelter/pound or give the dog away, you KNOW that the guy is NOT NOT NOT a keeper, definitely NOT husband material and NOT NOT NOT for you.

8. Dogs can be good babysitters. Not all dogs. And some dogs that you would not expect, like pit bulls (America’s nanny dogs). If you are a single mom and have a dog, both will repel frogs who could not care less about babies, children and pets. While some dogs are very good with children, NEVER leave a baby or child alone with a dog.

9. Dogs want to please you. Some guys do not bring you flowers, write poems, sing songs or dance with you. Even if they are good guys. Guys may not clean house, nor want to go shopping with you, listen to you nor want to go to the cleaners, salon or grocery store. But your dog will do whatever they can do to please you. and if that includes companionship, dogs are right there, on board, in the car and ready to go.

10. Dogs are less expensive than men. Think about it. You do not have to get dressed up, put on make-up nor impress your dog. Your dog is already impressed because you feed them, walk with them and play with them. Ok, you do have to buy pet food, treats, toys and bones and vet care but how much do you have to spend on dates? Maybe you cook for your guy, share some of the expenses of your dates, and if you have a frog, are paying more than your fair share. Add up the cost of clothes, make-up, food, gas, phone bills, gifts for birthdays and anniversaries and movies and compare them to your doggie expenses. Are you paying too much? Also add up the emotional price of dating frogs and/or looking for your one and only in the wrong places and you may wanna stick to your dog like glue and let your dog help you find your perfect match.

11. With a dog you are never alone.  One can be a lonely number. If you have a dog, you will always have someone to come home to. Someone to talk to who may not understand when you are mad, sad, or complaining but will love you anyway. Your dog wants to be with you always, even escorts you to the bathroom. A dog will make you laugh, makes a great snuggle/cuddle partner, keeps your toes warm, comforts you when you are not feeling well or are just plain blue and inspires hope that you will find Prince Charming and/or Live Your DREAMS, whatever they are.
