Residents of Miami/Dade County will be voting on whether to overturn the 23-year ban against keeping or owning pit bulls
The question on the August 14 ballot will ask voters, “Shall the ordinance repealing the county’s 23 year old law prohibiting the ownership of pit bulls as a dangerous breed of dogs become effective?”
Miami Marlins pitcher Mark Buehrle and his wife, Jamie — who moved their family from Chicago to Broward County rather than Miami-Dade because they own an American Staffordshire terrier, a type of pit bull — have supported lifting the ban.
Now, Gary Stein from the Florida Sun Sentinel thinks pit bull owners should have to carry extra insurance to own a dog.
“One million bucks in insurance is a good starting point. More is even better.
You love your pit bull? Great. Prove it with your wallet.”

Please share with Florida voters and pit bull owners.
there are no incidents to date of a spayed/neutered indoor family pit bull ever having killed anyone.
…[S]ince 1975, dogs belonging to more than 30 breeds have been responsible for fatal attacks on people, including Dachshunds, a Yorkshire Terrier, and a Labrador Retriever.” (It’s also key to point out that you are more likely to be killed by lightening than a dog, and dog bites are at historic lows.)

Recently, the state of Ohio became the fiftieth and final state in America to overturn breed specific legislation.
what about gun owners? Should all gun owners carry insurance?

oh but then the NRA would be UP IN ARMS… and in Florida, George Zimmerman is free and pit bulls are dangerous. ALL pit bull owners should be made to pay because of irresponsible owners? Do all parents have to pay because of abusive and irresponsible parents?
It is estimated that for every Pit Bull who kills, there are 10.5 MILLION that DON’T!
Owner Management & Control of Dogs
Owners failing to humanely contain, control and maintain their dogs (chained dogs, loose roaming dogs, cases of abuse/neglect); owners failing to knowingly supervise interaction between children and dogs.
Reproductive Status of Dog –
Owners failing to spay or neuter animals not used for competition, show, or in a responsible breeding program.
In 2006, 97% of the fatal attacks were the result of one or more of these reckless or criminal ownership practices.

A change making approach to dog issues from our friends at BadRap, don’t discriminate or punish, support and PREVENTION (get those dogs spayed/neutered and educate the owners, train the dogs)… simple, creative solutions WORK (darned, I know some people prefer to punish others than resolve situations)…
