10 Golden Retriever therapy dogs have arrived in Newtown, CT to comfort the survivors
we pray for the survivors that they heal and find peace and pray for our nation, that we ban assault weapons and provide gun control regulations and take care of mentally ill NOW…
”These tragedies must end. And to end them, we must change.” —President Obama at yesterday’s vigil in Newtown, Connecticut
In 1996, Australia banned semi-automatics. In the 18 years before, there were 13 mass shootings. Since then, none.

Key question for gun lobby: if owning guns protects you in your home, how come Mrs Lanza died – given that she had 6 of them?
This is Victoria. She died a hero Friday. She hid her first graders in the cabinets and closets after hearing the gunfire. When the shooter came to her classroom, she told him that her students were in the gym. He then gunned her down and moved on. She saved the lives of all of her students. She deserves to be remembered for her bravery.
this morning, the sun is shining, the birds are chirping and tails are wagging!!!!! first dog Bo stays in the White House… Big Bird is happy… NO MORE ADS… Landslide. #Obama2012
Last night Ohio and many other states showed the country that our democracy is not for sale.
To the President…”When you were elected in 2008, you inspired the world with a call to take responsibility for the problems we face as global citizens. Since then, you have made earnest efforts to live up to that great hope and trust placed in you by the American public. I believe you have been re-elected now in recognition of that effort.” — the Dalai Lama.”
WOMEN, WE DID IT!!! 18 women were elected to the Senate. That has never been done before.
Democrats don’t have to cheat to win
Americans love dogs but do we love women? just throwing that out since it seems like some people who call themselves American are waging war on women. They also don’t seem to care that much about dogs, animals, the environment, other people either.
in life, we have choices to make every day… and sometimes they are easy and other times they are difficult…
and it is not always as simple as this…
Mitt Romney drove to Canada with the family Irish setter on the roof of the car. and even now dogs do not like Romney…
Here’s the follow up: Barbara Bush comforting the dog, post-Romney encounter…Barbara: Don’t worry honey, he’s not going on vacation with us.
and what about this menu? is there anything on it that working or unemployed or seniors or women or middle class or poor people want????
Romney does not care about the poor, wants to cut funding to Planned Parenthood, and wants women to go back to 1950…
Roe v. Wade
Favors a repeal
“I’d like to see Roe v. Wade overturned and allow the states and the elected representatives of the people, and the people themselves, have the ability to put in place pro-life legislation.”
5 June 2007, Republican Presidential Debate (Manchester, New Hampshire)
President Obama echoed his support for the Supreme Court’s pro-choice decision in Roe v. Wade.
“Government should not intrude on private family matters,” Obama said in a statement, adding that he also supports policies to prevent “unintended pregnancies.”
Romney was weak about Rush Limbaugh, “It’s not the language I would have used,” Romney said of Limbaugh’s comments while President Obama called Sandra Fluke personally.
Obama said at a news conference that he’d called Fluke after Limbaugh made his comments “because I thought about Malia and Sasha, and one of the things I want them to do as they get older is to engage in issues they care about, even ones I may not agree with them on. I want them to be able to speak their mind in a civil and thoughtful way, and I don’t want them attacked or called horrible names because they’re good citizens.”
Obama on women’s health care
A 32-page regulatory proposal offers options for providing preventive care, and President Barack Obama‘s health care law requires health plans to cover prevention at no cost to the consumer.
President Obama: auto industry bailout
Romney would have allowed the industry to collapse and lose 1.3 million
Romney wants to tax the middle class and poor while President Obama wants to tax the 1%…
Romney’s pitch is that he’s Mr. Fix It — a corporate turnaround artist with an MBA. Looking for a candidate who’ll get the economy moving and put people back to work? Just so long as you overlook his only leadership experience in government and all the mass layoffs he orchestrated at his vulture-capital firm, Romney’s your guy.
What happens to that pitch if the economy improves, growth strengthens, and job creation picks up steam before the election? I don’t know. More importantly, I don’t think Romney knows, either.
Santorum’s pitch is altogether different. Whether the unemployment rate is 8.3% or 3.8%, Santorum is offering a message about culture, values, and religion. He doesn’t like contraception; he wants to restrict access to pornography; and a spirited defense of the separation of church and state makes him, in Santorum’s words, want to “vomit.”
As the former senator put it yesterday, “My campaign doesn’t hinge on unemployment rates and growth rates. It’s something more foundational that’s going on.”
Whether one finds Santorum’s agenda offensive or not, at least this is coherent and consistent. Unlike so many Republicans, he’s not rooting for bad economic news before the election, because the health of the economy is independent of his right-wing societal vision.
vast differences of Character, Vision and Values for our country… and if you are upset, paranoid and/or concerned about the NDAA and other bills restricting our civil liberties, the right wing GOP’ers meanwhile have invaded women’s privates and privacy in horrific ways, and want women who have abortions to be sent to jail for killing their unborn fetus “person.”
http://whatever.scalzi.com/2012/03/20/guest-post-a-doctor-on-transvaginal-ultrasounds/ a dr speaks out against unwanted, unnecessary t.v. ultrasounds, politics
What good is a law that adds only pain and difficulty to perhaps the most painful and difficult decision a woman can make? Shouldn’t women have a right to protect themselves from strangers’ opinions on their most personal matters? Shouldn’t we have the right not to know?
There are bills like these being considered and/or passed in states that have GOP governors and/or where the GOP has the majority.
GOP legislators have sought to exempt religious orgs from having to offer health insurance that covers contraceptives.
…In Arizona and Kansas, Republican state legislators pushed bills allowing a doctor to lie about the health status of your fetus for fear you might opt to get an abortion.
But the women behind Government Free VJJ have a different kind of approach:
“Follow these simple steps,” the website beckons…
1. Knit or crochet a lady part
2. Print a message to enclose
3. Mail it to your male Senator or Congressional Representative [links provided]
4. We’re in the process of arranging hand delivery to congressional offices in Washington, until then, go ahead and mail yours in!
5. Record your items in this spreadsheet so we can track which representatives still need to receive a “gift”!
6. Don’t forget to thank your representative if he respects women and supports our rights.
There are kntting and crochet patterns available to make a “snatchel.”
here is the crochet pattern…
”I am a woman and I have these human rights: The right to life. The right to privacy. The right to freedom. The right to bodily integrity. The right to decide when and how I reproduce.”

a worthy White House literacy project… heh heh heh
This is my 500th blog post, a milestone. It is sad to see people’s attitudes on this subject. Am sick of talking about vick, too. Yet when I hear racist remarks, apathy and cynical, nuthing gonna change so I ain’t gotta do nuthin attitudes, it is clear that more needs to be said on the topic. Can’t we please have an adult conversation and not just shove this underneath the rug? I believe in the power of prayer to change everything/everyone, and that does not mean God has blinders on, nor deaf, dumb and stupid, either.
An adult respects other people’s opinions not their own. An adult agrees to disagree with others without calling them names and bringing up stereotypical images. An adult acts and responds correctly to situations despite emotions and feelings about the subject matter.
Am I always an adult? No. I realized last night that having been abused myself is part of why I am so incensed about this issue. I spent my childhood in a state of terror, cowering, so I identify with the plight of the underdogs. I feel their pain and fright. And people’s pasts and emotions do not dismiss the valid points. Let’s just keep it civil. Do unto others as you want them to do unto you. Give others credit and let them have their opinions without resorting to rants, please.
It is clear that our country is still divided racially and racism on both sides rears its ugly head again over Obama as president and over Michael Vick. Ugh.
people, can we have a civilized conversation without resorting to racist claims on both sides? Some black Americans are using the race card and so are some white people but this is not a black/white issue… and I can understand why some black Americans think this is just a new excuse to hate them, hate successful black men, because of the tragic history of American racism and how dogs were used against them. That is a valid point.
and this is what I wrote to Ms Charing Ball.
I just read your piece about vick and I appreciated what you wrote and have a better understanding of how and why some black Americans are responding the way they are to this dog doo. This country is still divided racially and lots of stupid racist people are chiming in, like tucker carlson. I for one have tried to steer the conversation away from that b.s. by asking people to concentrate on the healing of the dogs instead of their hatred of black people.
Please don’t throw the babies out with the bath water!
I love dogs, hate fu fu dogs, and make fun of people who dress up their dogs and get them married, for goodness sake too. I laughed hard at that stuff white people like blog post.
Also, I have a pit bull mix that I rescued from the hands of a homicidal maniac and met three of the former vick dogs and am still haunted by the terror in those sad sad eyes. For a week or more after meeting them, i would cry every time my happy go lucky trusting dog would meet strangers. Those dogs will never be a dog like her again although they’ve come a long way.
I am writing to clarify a couple of key points, so maybe you can get beyond the color of Michael Vick’s skin and see why people of ALL colors are still outraged over him.
1. Vick used his own dog as a bait dog to be savaged. He is only banned from having a dog until 2012, he should NEVER be able to have a dog again.
2. if / when you read the lost dogs book by jim gorant, you will learn that vick got a plea deal, never admitted any personal wrong doing and he never got charged with animal cruelty. The book outlines precisely how they found the blood on his hands. He killed dogs for fun and profit. That is not just a mere mistake.
The ASPCA and law enforcement know that there is a well documented correlation between people who abuse animals go on to abuse people.
3. Redemption begins with admitting what you did wrong and remorse for what you did. Vick has never done that. He has said repeatedly he’d still be fighting dogs (and killing them brutally) if he had not been caught. He wants forgiveness without admitting what he did. It’s all a big PR show for money. we resent that football players of all colors get away with murder and all that matters is that they play ball.
4. Many people in this country are still outraged about bush/cheney getting away with murder and mayhem, and blame them for the economy, rightly so. many hate those two white guys. and anyone sane of mind, knows sarah palin is nuts, don’t get me started.
5. This guy has good points about how it’s ok in this country to get away with stuff if you are rich and famous.
and from the people in the trenches taking care of the dogs, Best Friends, who took in 22 of the dogs.
Thanks for listening.
am glad this guy is finally free, but it took 30 years, wow… hint: he is black…
now this stuff (see link below) that people say about President Obama is about racism. I agree with Michael Moore that some people became unglued when he became president and so they keep coming up with all kinds of crazy reasons to hate him.
what do you think???
send the POTUS (President of the US)/White House a copy of the Lost Dogs book by Jim Gorant if you can.
Mr. President and First Lady Obama

now, Dear President Obama, I love you… read on, it’s great…
Does the Trojan corporation get a phone call from President Obama if it gives Tiger Woods “a second chance” with an exclusive multimillion-dollar condom endorsement deal? Would Trojan then be about the business of changing the perception of/leveling the playing field for philandering professional athletes? Imagine the campaign slogan…
“Unleash the Tiger in your pants! Got Wood?”
Michael Mountain, one of the founders of Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, speaks out about vick and President Obama.
Rehabilitation starts with acknowledging what you did. vick has never admitted doing anything personally that he did.
yes, now we’re cooking, huffpost has posted an article about best friend’s blog and polled people if they think obama owes them a call, 80% said yes, please chime in, thanks !!!
obama should call badrap too for that matter, they took care of a lot of the dogs, too, and I called the white house, it was great, send obama the lost dogs book, we are having impact for GOOD, http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/12/30/michael-vicks-dogs-call_n_802700.html
ok, finally Best Friends weighs in, been harassing them all with emails…other people probably have, too…. yay !!!

here is what I wrote:
Dear President Obama, please read the book lost dogs by jim gorant. should child molesters be able to adopt children?
85% in usa today poll say vick should never own a dog. he said he would still be dog fighting if he had not been caught. he never was charged with animal cruelty though he killed dogs with his bare hands for fun & profit.
i met 3 of the dogs. never let vick near bo. we can forgive but never forget. playing football is not a standard by which to let a dog killer near dogs ever again.
Here is the petition letter…
I would add that if Obama was trying to win Pennsylvania votes, that strategy was POOR JUDGEMENT, wrong for the country and that you will not vote for him unless/until he changes his stance. I hesitate on this because I know that his opponents are jumping on this (Fox News) to hit him over the head with… sometimes I think Obama self-sabotages. Still, there is NO ROOM for politics when dog’s lives are at stake !!!
Dear President Obama:
It has been reported that you felt compelled to call the owner of the Philadelphia Eagles football team, Jeffrey Lurie, to “thank” him for giving dog-fighter, Michael Vick, a second chance. It is baffling that you would step into the ring surrounding this controversial individual who has killed dogs in heinous ways with his own hands and barely served 2 years jail time for his actions. For some reason, you did make this choice, and as a Pit Bull advocate – a dog advocate – I cannot sit back and allow you to think you’ve done the right thing without hearing from my side.
There is no rehabilitation for this type of criminal. Particularly when the perpetrator himself has repeatedly said that he would still be fighting (killing) dogs if he hadn’t been caught. He has refused, time and again, to meet the rehabilitated survivors of his abuse – which would be a critical step in the right direction for him making amends with the dog community. Now he claims to want another dog in his home for his children – an arrogant statement only meant to fuel the fire he has created since his arrest. He deserves no such opportunity – ever.
It is particularly disconcerting to me that you have chosen to commend the criminal but have not once acknowledged the victims of his actions or, for that matter, the law enforcement officers and dog experts who handled the case. Until you meet some of these dogs, read the book The Lost Dogs by Jim Gorant, and commend the people involved in ending the Bad Newz Kennel operation, I don’t see how you can embarrass yourself by making this phone call. You should apologize immediately for this decision.
this is a blog hop, i put in code, did it ten times, hopefully it will get you to where you are supposed to go…
Sasha says April 1st, April Fools Day… good day to bring a new dog home… They’re seeking a rescue Portuguese Water Dog (similar to Labradoodles) …
