Santa Nella House

what a delightful and romantic way to step back in time, in a lovely, fresh, sparking clean and eco friendly home in Guerneville called the Santa Nella House… it’s so obvious that the owners, Bob Reeves and Betsy Taggart (from New York, of course) love what they do and take good care of the home and their guests… such gracious hosts. for instance, the log on the fire was non-toxic, I love fireplaces but do not appreciate the smoke. This log had a wonderful aroma and was not smoky.
Bob offered me tea before bed with blueberry muffins, a first.

The home is located conveniently on Highway 116, amidst forests/trees… our room on the ground floor, called the library had a claw foot tub and a shower, and is adjacent to the kitchen. no tv, free wireless internet is available.

This peaceful first-floor room, has easy access to the outdoor hot tub, features a mile-high antique pine queen-sized bed. The fireplace is bordered by windows that let in the fresh morning light. A sitting chair invites one to cozy up with a good book.

there is another dog friendly room on the other side of the house, near the entrance, with a canopy bed, that looks wonderful and there is a parlor, all the rooms have real fireplaces, and there is a wraparound veranda, which would be nice to sit outside on a warm sunny day and have wine and cheese and fruit at 5 pm, which the owners serve …

there are live chickens on the property, which made cici sit up and take notice at 6 a.m. she was wide awake and ready to rumble… besides, she just adored Bob and Betsy, who are grand-dog parents to two boxers. Their daughter is a dog trainer in Elk Grove.

bob reeves served breakfast earlier for us, usually it is at 9 am, but since we were up early, he went ahead and made a flambuoyant french toast, made like bananas foster, flames and all, with strawberries and syrup, plus delicious mangoes, pineapple and cantaloupe with cream, and the most delicious fresh homemade sausages, am not a big fan of sausages, but these were the best I’ve ever eaten… Betsy also makes her own homemade granola, yum !

there is soda and water and sherry available 24/7 and many books to peruse…

peace and quiet, ahhhhh…

cici adored Bob and Betsy and was so excited to be at the Santa Nella House that she woke up at 6 am, raring to go with lots of slobbery kisses and tail wags… now that is DOGITUDE !

there are many wineries nearby on river road, as well as restaurants… There are over 50 wineries within 25 miles of the Santa Nella House. Korbel Champagne Cellars is a one-mile walk across the river and through the forest. Iron Horse Vineyards is a ten-minute drive. Information for your daily wine tasting is available from the innkeepers.

and the river is also close by, and the nearby town of Monte Rio has a dog friendly beach… the ocean beaches at Bodega Bay and Jenner are about 30 minutes away… and then there is the Armstrong Woods, a beautiful forest of redwoods.

That was really a nice thing to do. Hope you’ll be able to do it again. By the way, did you by chance see this article about Zootoo’s shelter makeover?
