It is the pits and not the pits

did it all begin with dogs?

the rancor, recrimination, disdain, and discrimination,

small versus large dogs.

breed discrimination.

breed bans.

talk to any owner of a German Shepherd, Rottweiler, or pit bull (which is not a breed, a bunch of bully breeds including American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrirer, Pit Bull Terrier, and others) are lumped together and called pit bulls, and they will tell you about how their dog(s) are vilified, demonized, shunned, and/or called mean, vicious and/or killer dogs, no matter the dog.

is it any wonder then now we have right here in America:

red vs blue

GOP vs Democrats

conservatives vs liberals

Bernie supporters versus Hillary

men versus women

white Christian evangelicals aka white supremacists against everyone

heterosexuals against LGBT folks

white people versus nonwhite people

rich versus poor and middle class

1% versus 99%

housed versus unhoused

child molesters and rapists versus transgendered

environmentalists aka tree huggers versus climate change deniers and oil companies, big pharma and nuke, coal, industries

vegetarians and vegans versus meat eaters

war mongers versus pacifists

north versus south

didn’t we fight this war before, I seem to recall something…

people divided

a nation in crisis

fighting each other and the whole world

when will we learn the lessons and stop blaming one another, pointing fingers, spewing hatred?

it is not the dogs, not the people…

a nation gone mad accusing one another for our problems

we are NOT NOT NOT going to solve anything with slurs, epithets, walls and bans

can we just agree to disagree and MOVEO N?????

on a different note, Cici and I are traveling and met with Howard Epstein in LA for lunch yesterday. It was fun and yummy and we grew up in the same neighborhood in NYC, went to the same high school at different times.

Dogcott the Olympics

people make all kinds of stupid, mean and unintentionally wrong remarks on Facebook and the Internet, about gay people, about dogs, about pit bulls in particular and more…

I am noticing that people use pit bull when they want to indicate a mean or scary or even a big dog. for instance, one author I read wrote about her friend being able to wrestle a 160 pound pit bull. this was in a book. i wrote to the person and told her that there ain’t no such thing. that pit bulls, aka American Pit Bull Terriers, Pit Bull Terriers and American Staffordshire Terriers, are average between 40-80 pounds. And to say a 160 pound pit bull makes the dog sound really scary, right. Not good for the breed, thank you very much. She wrote back thanking me and told me that her friend had a chow pit bull mix. Well, a chow can be a big dog. And so can Aussie Shepherds, Labs, Goldens, Rotties and other dog breeds but not pit bull breeds. so if you want to talk about wrestling a DOG, say a dog, or a BIG breed of dog like those mentioned, capiche?

Someone else today wrote about a pit bull tearing apart toilet paper. What that visual was supposed to connote am not sure. But again, why not just a dog or cat tore apart the toilet paper? sounds scarier saying a pit bull and continues the big bad mean myth.

Meanwhile, numerous communities are repealing, overturning and doing away with their breed bans, yay. Mixed bag, right.

Now, what is happening in Russia is a big travesty and people are boycotting the Olympics due to the fact that stray dogs in Sochi are being killed to prepare for the Olympics. They were called disposable waste. Also, Russian treatment of gay people is abominable. And there are other problems going on there, too.

“In a phone interview with ABC News, Sorokin described the extermination as a public service. He described the animals as “ biological trash” and said that Sochi has “an epidemic of rabies”.

“I am for the right of people to walk the streets without fear of being attacked by packs of dogs,” he said.

“The practice of hunting stray dogs has become common in Russia, where they are widely visible throughout many city streets. Sterilisation is not common and many owners simply abandon their pets.”

a resscue group is trying to save the dogs that are left.

“Hundreds of dogs have already been killed. Authorities have told the organization they have until today, before Friday’s opening ceremonies, and any dogs left will be shot.

“Rescued dogs are being taken to a shelter called PovoDog, outside of the city.  Organization workers say many pets were left behind by families displaced by the construction for the games. And, construction workers attracted the dogs to stick around by feeding them.

“Rescue workers began their efforts this past October. They report up to 300 dogs were being killed a month.

“The Volnoe Deloe rescue is backed by Russian billionaire Oleg V. Deripaska.

Justice for Lennox

Lennox was taken from the Barnes family home in Belfast by dog wardens two years ago after city council officials identified him as a pit bull-type dog, which is illegal in Northern Ireland. Lennox was an American bulldog Labrador mix not a pit bull. A 28-day deadline for legal appeals expired at midnight on July 10, 2012. The dog, who never hurt anyone, never bit anyone, was a family pet, was executed for looking like a pit bull after being taken from his family two years ago. The dog’s heartbroken owner, Caroline Barnes and her teenage daughter Brooke were denied the chance to say a final farewell. They were not even told that the dog was dead by the Belfast City Council who were determined to kill the dog, despite numerous other viable options to rehome the dog in the USA and italy. Now they will not return the body nor his collar to the family.

pls share, everyone tweet the prime minister @number10gov and ask him to investigate the BCC re: Lennox, suggestion came from Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York… I kid you not… she said be persistent… be factual and professional

MUST READ… Victoria Stilwell was threatened by the BCC and sued  (he failed since she spoke the truth)

New radio show with Victoria Stilwell, Sarah Fisher, James Crosby and Peter Tallack

BCC assessment of Lennox

Dog experts assessment of Lennox

The test starts with Lennox on leash, held by a female Animal Control person, with both the Animal Control person and David Ryan (presumably a stranger to Lennox), a behaviorist, seated in chairs.  Lennox is being petted by the female.  Lennox is seated and seems to be relaxed.

…At no time did Lennox show even the most remote aggressive response to this stranger, Mr. Ryan.

Crosby goes on to compare evaluations of two other dogs…

…Note that my written evaluations of Lennox, “JoJo”, and Helo never use language such as “the most dangerous dog I have ever seen” or any of the other nonsense that the BCC’s evaluator has used.  Such emotional language has no place in a behavioral assessment.  My evaluations never mention the dogs’ appearance, as physical appearance has absolutely no bearing on behavior.

Lennox certainly got short shrift in this incident.  The evaluator that the Court relied upon is clearly unqualified to assess temperament and behavior.  He doesn’t even have the credentials to assess adherence to a breed standard.

Lennox, on a leash, being tested for temperament. The leash is held by a woman alleged to be Sandie Lightfoot, the dog warden responsible for the chain of events that led to Lennox’s murder. The man in the video is reportedly David Ryan, a dog behavior expert hired by the family to do an assessment of Lennox without any prejudice. Ryan was one of two dog behavior experts who examined Lennox, and who both testified to the court that the dog showed no sign of aggression.

In the video, the dog is relaxed and friendly. He sits on command, and waits for a treat. Several times, he attempts to lick both people in a visibly friendly and playful manner.

The video is dated March 15, 2011. This is long after both Lightfoot and the Belfast City Council had alleged that Lennox was aggressive towards people. The video shows no signs of aggression. Moreover, Lightfoot, who by this time certainly had interacted with Lennox several times, shows no nervousness at being around the dog, at all.

We are taking comfort in the fact that Lennox is no longer in the hands of those who caused him pain… the barnes family

Northern Ireland’s First Minister Peter Robinson turned to social media in a doomed, last-minute attempt at intervention. ”

As a dog lover I am very unhappy with the outcome of this case,” he tweeted. “Spoke to Lord Mayor about Lennox. Suggested BCC (Belfast City Council) should seriously look at re-homing option. Why exercise the order if there’s an alternative?”

Victoria Stilwell

“I want to know why Belfast City council won’t give Lennox’s body back to the family and why they won’t even return his collar to Brooke even though they were asked to do so by the family so that she could have something to remember him by. There is something corrupt going on and an independent review of the council’s actions in this case needs to be done. I want answers. Why not return the body? Was Lennox even still alive and what physical condition was he in at the time of his death? We already have evidence of his poor physical state during Sarah Fisher’s behavioral evaluation of him last year. Hair loss, sores on his body,a hurt neck and damaged paw. The council have many questions they need to answer because I think they have something to hide.”

” I am so disgusted and want everyone to know how low Belfast City Council have stooped. The Barnes family heard about the death of their beloved dog through me because I had been told by a source at BBC Radio Ulster. After what the council put the family through they didn’t even have the decency to inform the family first before everyone else know. Someone involved in this mess needs to lose their job. If this is the way they represent their citizens then Belfast beware. Belfast City Council should hang their heads for the shameful and insensitive way they have handled this. Heartless doesn’t even begin to describe the people surrounding this case. Appalling and I can assure you, this will NEVER be forgotten!”

Pleas from the US and UK as well as Australia, Sweden, Italy, Finland, and Belgium.

An Italian minister even offered Lennox a home and asked for clemency. 200,000 signatures signed a petition supporting a reprieve…

Investigate the Belfast City Council

Sack and Bring Lightfoot to Justice for Perjury… please sign and share petition

I am asking for an investigation of the Belfast City Council regarding the handling of the Lennox the dog case. There are too many questions left unanswered. Too many actions that are questionable. Lennox had offers of sanctuary from some of the best-known dog advocates in the world. Dog trainer Victoria Stilwell went to Ireland trying in vain to meet with the Belfast City Council (BCC) or anyone with authority who would listen. She generously offered to pay all costs to re-home him in the United States and to take full responsibility for him for the rest of his life. The BCC refused to communicate with her, as they had refused dialogue with so many others before. They were allegedly, breathtakingly heartless and cruel to Lennox, and his family, and to good people throughout the world who tried to engage them positively. Their callousness climaxed in their refusal to grant the Barnes family the chance to say goodbye, or collect Lennox’s body and give him a proper burial.  The BCC has shown a complete lack of  human decency in their dealings with the public and the Barnes family. The BCC employees have stonewalled the public, made animal sounds on the phone the day Lennox was killed, hung up on people concerned about Lennox, threatened dog experts and tried to sue them for speaking the truth.

We are left with more questions than answers. Why couldn’t unbiased behaviorists assess the dog? Why wouldn’t they let anyone, including the family, see the dog — up to and after his death? Were they abusing him? Had their lack of care led to his failing health or premature death? Had they violated the law and killed him before the appeal period was up? These were the only things that made sense in the face of a wall of silence and a bolted door. We have just begun to make our voices heard and we will win.

We are NOT going away any time soon. The more that the BCC shuts us out, the more we will demand answers and an investigation into the BCC.

1. Newly surfaced videos and assessment evaluations show a sweet loving Lennox made March 15, 2011 long after testimony to the contrary had been sworn to in court. We already have evidence of his poor physical state during Sarah Fisher’s behavioral evaluation of him last year. Hair loss, sores on his body,a hurt neck and damaged paw.

2. Perjury pertains to #1. and testimony of non expert witness Alexandre Lightfoot.

3. Pertains to #1 and #2. Why wasn’t the expert testimony of behavioral dog specialists used.

4. Why was the same judge allowed to sit on the bench for appeal. He should have recused himself. He was obviously biased.

5. Where was common sense and “…Justice tempered by mercy…”.

6. Why wasn’t the family allowed to visit during this two year period

7. Why weren’t they allowed one last visit?

8. Why couldn’t they have the body; Lennox could no longer pose a threat to the public. He was dead.

9. Why wasn’t his collar given to Brooke.

10. It has been hinted at by noteworthy officials and well renowned individuals that this was a vindictive campaign against Caroline Barnes because she dared speak out against BSL laws.

These are just a few questions and observations we have. There are many more. The actions of the Belfast City Council are irredeemable in the World’s eyes. The BCC has cast a shadow on your city that can only fall on your shoulders. A thorough investigation is required  in the eyes of the world. This will NOT blow over before you know it. We demand Justice for Lennox.

Breed Specific Legislation is legal prejudice and deserves no place on the statute books of a civilised nation. We’d not agree to racial profiling to label all foreigners with certain physical qualities as terrorists or accept a law that measures a person’s biceps to decide if they’re likely to be violent in the future. Looks in this case can kill and it’s the innocent that are dying. Let’s fight on together to get rid of pointless laws that don’t protect the public and result in dogs like Lennox being posted home in the mail to a family who fought so hard to save their best friend. RIP Lennox, we’ll never forget you and why you died.

For Brooke…Justice for Lennox

for Brooke and her bestest friend in the whole world… Lennox…

May we ALL take comfort in the fact of KNOWING that Lennox is NO LONGER in the hands of those who caused him pain…

from the family/Save Lennox:

RIP Lennox… No longer at the hands of those that caused him pain.
Lennox was murdered at 7am this morning, the family weren’t allowed to say goodbye, his family were refused to be allowed to be by his side.Love you pup, you will forever be remembered for your bravery, the amazing people you brought together, and for those you helped. You are loved sweet boy, run free, we will meet again someday, you will always be alive in the hearts of many who fought for you.No longer at the hands of those that cause you pain.

Such brave and beautiful people, the Barnes family…

I pray that Lennox comes to Brooke and/or Carolyn in a dream and lets them know that he is good and healthy now that he is over the Rainbow Bridge… it may take awhile for this to happen… But in the name of ALL that is Good and Holy and Decent, may the Angels comfort  and Love this family, Heal this family and Protest them from all harm… Amen…

what kind of heartless creatures CHOOSE to murder a CHILD’s bestest friend?

the BEASTS of the Belfast City Council…

What are parents supposed to tell their children now?

Oh, the BCC had plenty of other options but instead

they chose to HIDE the evidence of their cruelty

by killing Brooke’s dog…

The BCC has shown No Decency… No Mercy…

may they REAP what they have SOWED for eternity

and may this evil Breed Specific Legislation

be BANISHED from the face of the Earth Forever

Belfast, Ireland, home of children’s pet KILLERS

The world MUST show the BCC the same Mercy they showed Brooke and Lennox… NONE

Hold the BCC accountable… for Brooke’s and Lennox’s sake…

Victoria Stilwell:  Just got confirmation that despite other options, pleas for mercy from hundreds of thousands and personal appeals from the First Minister, the BCC killed Lennox this morning. I’m sickened, outraged, and devastated for the Barnes family.

as am I… what kind of creatures Kill a little girl’s bestest friend????

and know this to be true… Lennox was MURDERED/KILLED NOT NOT NOT put to sleep or another euphemism as this brilliant piece so aptly points out…

RIP LENNOX… Run free… Peace and Healing and Justice for the Barnes family…

That life is eternal
And love is immortal
And death is only a horizon
Life is eternal
As we move into the light
And a horizon is nothing
Save the limit of our sight
Save the limit of our sight

The Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a beautiful place called “The Rainbow Bridge”.

When a beloved pet dies, that pet goes to the Rainbow Bridge.
It is a land of meadows, hills and colorful
valleys with lush green grass.
There is always plenty of food, water and sunshine
and our little friends are warm and comfortable.

There all the animals who had been ill and old
are young again, restored to health and vigor.
Those who have been hurt or maimed are made whole and strong.
The animals play all day and are happy and content
but there is one thing missing.
They each miss someone who they left behind.

Someone very special who loved and cared for them on earth.
Then the day comes when one suddenly stops playing and looks up.
The bright eyes are intent and the body quivers with excitement.
Suddenly that one runs away from the group
flying over the green grass, running faster and faster.

You have been spotted.
And when you and your special friend meet again,
you take them in your arms and embrace.
Happy kisses rain upon your face. Your hands caress your beloved friend.
You look once more into the trusting eyes of your faithful pet.

And then together you cross over “The Rainbow Bridge” into heaven

….. Never to be separated again.

Lennox: ignorance reigns in Ireland

Lennox…‎#HowlingforLennox  RIP LENNOX

“A Belfast woman has failed in a final attempt to spare the life of her pit bull terrier-type dog.”

Lennox is scheduled to DIE on Monday or Tuesday, July 9 or 10, 2012.

WORLDWIDE protests…

Victoria Stilwell, Jeff Coltenback, Cesar Millan and even the Italian ministers have offered HOMES for Lennox… at their OWN Expense… NO response yet… Awaiting Victoria Stilwell’s message since she is in Belfast meeting with the family and the Belfast City Council.

Cesar Millan

The fight to #rehome Lennox is not over. The Millan Foundation is working hard to find a solution to #savelennox#rescue #rehome#educate

Lennox Update : Lennox’s situation is dire and as I type this the Belfast Government is planning on their next steps in murdering Lennox although I think they refer to it as “Putting Lennox to Sleep” or (PTS) Actually putting an animal or child to sleep means turning out the lights, kissing them on the head and tucking them in nice and snug. PTS in this case will mean murdering an innocent pup who just because of his looks and possible breed was put in this unbelievable situation. Work is ongoing behind the scenes to yank Lennox out of that confinement…….Please do not give up hope and continue to pray. Capt

This entire situation shows exactly how ignorant and uncaring some people really are. Legal decisions being made by people like these Judges in Belfast are why people are so disgusted by the Legal System. To assume an animal is a “danger” simply because of its breed is pathetic, unjustified and cowardly. I can assure you all that Lennox and his story to survive will not be in vain and that as we move forward and I continue to speak out against Breed Specific Legislation Lennox and his memory will be with me. Capt

am going to barf, did not know about some of this… not allowing Lennox to see a vet, making him lie in his own feces and not allowing the family a final visit… this is CRUEL and UNUSUAL PUNISHMENT, and Lennox ONLY crime is looking like a pit bull, not even being one, not being a dangerous dog… these people make me SICK…I thought that I thought the worst but this is worse than what I thought…

Lennox, an American Bull dog Labrador cross, NOT a pit bull, not a terrier, the poster boy of an INNOCENT dog… unfortunately what I originally wrote a couple of weeks ago was prophetic… sinking feeling that it was going to be true… a few things I do not understand, one report says Ms Barnes was not in court. If so, is she ill or ????  am concerned about the family now.

How many innocent dogs have to die because of fear mongering and ignorance?

Does Lennox fit any of the criteria for a dangerous dog set forth in the Pit Bull Placebo by Karen Delise?

uh no…but he supposedly LOOKS like a pit bull, that is his ONLY crime, the Judges say he looks like a pit bull therefore, he must die

he is not intact, he is neutered

not been chained up, he IS a beloved socialized therapy and family dog

not a guard dog

not an abused nor neglected dog

not a starved dog

not an unsupervised dog

never shown any sign of aggression

Lennox is NOT NOT NOT a dangerous dog yet he has been sentenced to die in Belfast, Ireland

This is a travesty, a disgrace and unconscionable

there are no incidents to date of a spayed/neutered indoor family pit bull ever having killed anyone.

…[S]ince 1975, dogs belonging to more than 30 breeds have been responsible for fatal attacks on people, including Dachshunds, a Yorkshire Terrier, and a Labrador Retriever.” (It’s also key to point out that you are more likely to be killed by lightening than a dog, and dog bites are at historic lows.)

What kind of message does this send to the world?  You can be persecuted and put to death because of  the way you look… Beyond sad and mad. These people need to answer to a Higher Authority.

For Lennox, his long ordeal and suffering will finally be over… may he feel the grass under his paws as in the photo above, the air in his fur and be able to run free… doesn’t mean this was right by any means. For these people to abuse a dog in the name of fear mongering hysteria and discriminate against the disabled and their service dogs is a TRAVESTY.

Victoria Stilwell ~~ “Devastating and unjust. The dregs of humanity. Evidence from highly skilled dog behaviorists rejected and the evidence from a police dog handler was upheld. Shame on BSL (breed specific legislation) and shame on those for demonizing particular breed types. I can tell you now that because of unqualified people who fear certain dogs, BSL will spread to other breeds, but ignorance will never win because we will continue to fight. Thoughts for Lennox’s family and for Lennox. You poor, poor boy, trapped in the middle of this horror all because of human ignorance.”

On the 19th May 2010, Lennox, a five year old American Bull dog Labrador cross was wrongfully seized by Belfast City Council Dog Wardens from his loving family home where he lived with his owners and his kennel mates. Lennox committed no crime nor did any member of the public complain about him. Three Belfast City Council Dog Wardens came with the PSNI to his home unannounced. The Dog Wardens then told the Police to leave as there was no need for them at the location. The Belfast City Council Dog Wardens had tea with his owners, smoked cigarettes, chatted, played with the other family dogs after which the Dog Wardens then measured Lennox’s muzzle and rear legs with a dress maker’s tape measure and decided on those measurements without seeking any professional advice that he was a possible “Pit Bull Type Breed” and so he was led from his home to be put to death by the Council.

Northern Ireland has yet to fully implement the same dog legislation as mainland UK; if Northern Ireland were to complete the dog legislation here then Lennox would now be at home with his family and they would not now be facing legal prosecution. The USPCA said the law in Northern Ireland could be changed simply and rather quickly by an order in Council.

turns out what I had written was prophetic, sadly…

The latest on Lennox:

The info I had posted before was INCORRECT… I AM SO SORRY… The link I originally posted was from a year ago…

this is the latest info… Please continue to pray for Lennox and his family !!!

Lennox has NOW been sentenced to die.

I think I found a loophole, because it seems that Belfast, Ireland has been targeting and discriminating against disabled people and taking their dogs away from them. Ms Barnes is disabled and there is even an anti-discrimination law in Ireland.
