Woof For Equality

On Saturday, more than two million women and men marched in more than 600 cities around the world.  They marched in DC, 500,000, LA, 750,000, NYC and more. Many of the women have never protested before and it was a historic protest of an inauguration ever.

“Women are marching because our children deserve a secretary of education that cares about education.”

“Women are marching because our family and friends deserve healthcare. Did you know that before the ACA, newborns in the NICU would hit their lifetime caps on health insurance coverage. That’s right, Babies who had never felt the sun on their skin could no longer get health insurance.”

“Women are marching because domestic violence crisis centers and after school programs deserve funding.”

“Women are marching because we deserve clean air, clean water, and national parks.”

“Women are marching because we believe the children protected by the DREAM act deserve to be here and they deserve to live with their parents, not in orphanages and foster homes.”

“And most of all, women are marching because we have the right to. The right to protest and speak out against our government is the first amendment. That’s right, #1! It is one of our most fundamental American rights.”

Pets in politics

If you share your politics with your pooches…

Send pictures of your pets wearing election-year flair to Pet Lovers for Obama

and you can also send photos to Dogs Against Romney… if you are against animal abuse… both Romney and Ryan have shown that they disregard animals and/or abuse them… Ryan kills fish with his bare hands and hunts deer… Romney strapped his Irish Setter on the roof of his car for a 12 hour drive to Canada and laughs about it…

The fur is flying and will continue to do so during the Conventions this week.  Hurricane Isaac has already ruined some of the GOP’s plans… Divine intervention… some say a big uterus is on its way to Tampa… after all of the horrific anti-choice, Akins/Ryan’s pro-rape, rapists have rights but women don’t rhetoric and bills and platform of the GOP, GOP: Don’t Mess with MOTHER God Nature

Historically, pets have played a very important role in the lives of many presidents and lawmakers.

  • FDR’s dog Fala helped him win re-election
  • President Ford would often signal his dog Liberty
  • President George Bush’s dog Millie and her puppies entertained many of the White House’s visiting guests
  • President Clinton’s dog Buddy kept him company in the dog house during the Lewinsky scandal
  • President George W. Bush’s dogs Barney and Miss Beazley  hosted annual video tours of the White House’s Christmas decorations.

Happy first Woman for President’s Day

with all of the uproar because of the GOP’s Back to the Past 1950’s agenda, think it is only fitting to talk about having a woman in the White House… from Marlo Thomas about women and power… she asks… “America has never leapt over that final gender barrier by electing a woman to our highest office — and the interesting thing is, so many countries around the world have achieved that equality.

Why not us?”

I would LOVE to vote for a woman for President… Elisabeth Warren comes to mind…  would love for there to BE a woman for President…

this is way overdue… ERA…

here is the First Lady and Bo … Bo has been showing up a lot more it seems, perhaps to highlight the difference between Romney’s abusive dog car ride and Bo’s having it made… Michelle Obama even said that she’d like to come back as Bo…because he has it so good…

happy bill of rights day

I had other items planned to post… fun, interesting, entertaining doggie related items… but this is much more important since there has been a virtual media blackout on this crucial topic…  if the Bill of Rights means anything to you, then please read on.

www.billofrightsday.com

Congress, the media, the US government, the 1% are counting on you being too busy with Christmas shopping and your own issues, to notice the travesty of bills they have snuck by us this week… they like doing things secretly, behind closed doors. Because they know that Americans (and the rest of the world) would NOT agree with SOPA and the NDAA.

Maybe you spent the last weekend shopping for gifts, writing out holiday cards or studying for final exams. For most of America, the end of the year is a busy time. In Congress, this is a season usually spent trying to jam through bad bills while they hope no one is looking.

WAKE UP AMERICA !!!!!

http://blogs.alternet.org/speakeasy/2011/12/15/future-headline-american-soldiers-seize-detain-u-s-citizens-as-police-block-press-from-scene/

Let me put it in animal lovers terms, who is going to take care of your pets when they arrest you and ship you off indefinitely for having protested animal abuse, for having a pit bull or God only knows what?  think I’m crazy, paranoid or alarmist, read on.

Dispelling the common lies, myths/denial about the NDAA …’

In sum, there is simply no question that this bill codifies indefinite detention without trial (Myth 1). There is no question that it significantly expands the statutory definitions of the War on Terror and those who can be targeted as part of it (Myth 2). The issue of application to U.S. citizens (Myth 3) is purposely muddled — that’s why Feinstein’s amendments were rejected — and there is consequently no doubt this bill can and will be used by the U.S. Government (under this President or a future one)  to bolster its argument that it is empowered to indefinitely detain even U.S. citizens without a trial (NYTEditorial: “The legislation could also give future presidents the authority to throw American citizens into prison for life without charges or a trial”; Sen. Bernie Sanders: “This bill also contains misguided provisions that in the name of fighting terrorism essentially authorize the indefinite imprisonment of American citizens without charges”).

list from https://www.facebook.com/pages/Recall-Every-Congressman-Who-Voted-for-the-NDAA/248343955227401

1. Q: This defense bill is the same one that is passed every year.

A: This is true.

2. Q: This year the GOP decided to add this to the usual bill

A: Actually, it was a bi-partisan effort, with both a Republican sponsor – McCain and a Democratic one – Levin. (for the Senate version of the bill. In the House, it was sponsored by Rep. Howard McKeon, R-CA25)

3. Q: because they knew people would freak out

A: Actually, they were counting on our apathy. “Hey, isn’t there a Christmas going on? That’s right, keep shopping; we’ll add the SOPA to the mix too! We learned; we did the same thing when we introduced the Federal Reserve in 1913, right around Christmas also. People are busy celebrating, you know…”

4. Q: It has been removed of course, and they knew it would be

A: No, it hasn’t. The bill was just “adjusted” to reflect the wishes of Obama, so as to not limit his executive powers in any way. Absolutely nothing has been done to the offending Indefinite Detention Clause.

5. Q: However, the damage is done and the internet ‘media’ is running wild with this just as planned.

A: Actually, few Americans know about this offending bill, since there is a media blackout on it.

6. Q: They know this nonsense was removed, but that doesn’t get clicks, the GOP scores.

A: Actually, this was a bi-partisan effort with a great many Democrats voting for it. They finally agreed on something. Judging from the way they voted on the Patriot Act, taking our Freedoms away seems to be the only endeavor the two parties agree on. The bill garnered a 74% approval in the House and a 93% approval in the Senate. Only 7 Senators voted against it, six of which also voted against The Patriot Act extension that occurred earlier this year. And yes, both Ron Paul and Rand Paul voted against it.

7. Q: because everyone thinks that the President wants to lock US up.

A: Actually he really can. He can also order American citizens killed. But this is nothing new; Obama has already done so. This simply codifies it – making it legal.

8. Q: It is just another stupid stunt, just like the last 10 or 15 stunts.

A: That would be nice.

H.R. 1540: National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2012: http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=h112-1540&tab=summary

S. 1867: National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2012 http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=s112-1867

S.1867: http://bit.ly/S1867 and http://1.usa.gov/S1867b

Final Senate vote on the bill: http://1.usa.gov/NDAAvote

Final Vote in the House: http://bit.ly/NDAAHouseVote

The original problem sections (1031 and 1032) are still in the bill and contrary to the claims of supporters of the bill, the wording of section 1032 does not, in fact, provide protection for US citizens. The use of the phrase “not required” instead of “prohibited” leaves the decision to allow the military to detain citizens entirely in the hands of federal authorities.

__

The ACLU said last night that the bill contains “harmful provisions that some legislators have said could authorize the U.S. military to pick up and imprison without charge or trial civilians, including American citizens, anywhere in the world” and added: “if President Obama signs this bill, it will damage his legacy.” Human Rights Watch said that Obama’s decision “does enormous damage to the rule of law both in the US and abroad” and that “President Obama will go down in history as the president who enshrined indefinite detention without trial in US law.”

Both groups pointed out that this is the first time indefinite detention has been enshrined in law since the McCarthy era of the 1950s, when — as the ACLU put it — “President Truman had the courage to veto” the Internal Security Act of 1950 on the ground that it “would make a mockery of our Bill of Rights” and then watched Congress override the veto. That Act authorized the imprisonment of Communists and other “subversives” without the necessity of full trials or due process (many of the most egregious provisions of that bill were repealed by the 1971 Non-Detention Act, and are now being rejuvenated by these War on Terror policies of indefinite detention). President Obama, needless to say, is not Harry Truman. He’s not even the Candidate Obama of 2008 who repeatedly insisted that due process and security were not mutually exclusive and who condemned indefinite detention as “black hole” injustice.

http://www.salon.com/2011/12/15/obama_to_sign_indefinite_detention_bill_into_law/singleton/

___

Feinstein was able to include a largely symbolic amendment which states that “nothing in the bill changes current law relating to the detention of U.S. citizens and legal aliens,” but this measure is meaningless according to Republican Congressman Justin Amash, a fierce critic of the bill.

“Some have asserted that Sen. Feinstein’s amendment, S Amdt 1456, protects the rights of American citizens and preserves constitutional due process. Unfortunately, it does not. It’s just more cleverly worded nonsense.” http://bit.ly/NDAAscrewed4

___

The reason the compromise amendment worked is that it leaves the question of domestic military detention open, leaving the matter for Supreme Court to resolve should a future president decide to assert the authority to detain a US citizen on American soil.http://bit.ly/NDAAscrewed

The only “silver lining,” if one can call it such, is that the military isn’t forced to detain American citizens without trial, it’s merely allowed to. The Senate has officially declared the entire United States to be a battleground. And you and I are potential enemies.http://bit.ly/NDAAscrewed5

“The detention mandate to use indefinite military detention in terrorism cases isn’t limited to foreigners. It’s confusing, because two different sections of the bill seem to contradict each other, but in the judgment of the University of Texas’ Robert Chesney — a nonpartisan authority on military detention — “U.S. citizens are included in the grant of detention authority,” http://bit.ly/NDAA9

Amnesty International: The new National Defense Authorization Bill (S1867) presented to the Senate by the Armed Services Committee is such a disaster for civil liberties and human rights it is difficult to know where to begin. http://bit.ly/NDAA4

The ACLU: “The bill is an historic threat to American citizens and others because it expands and makes permanent the authority of the president to order the military to imprison without charge or trial American citizens,” said Christopher Anders, ACLU senior legislative counsel. “The final amendment to preserve current detention restrictions could turn out to be meaningless and Senators Levin and Graham made clear that they believe this power to use the military against American citizens will not be affected by the new language. This bill puts military detention authority on steroids and makes it permanent. If it becomes law, American citizens and others are at real risk of being locked away by the military without charge or trial.http://bit.ly/ACLUonNDAA

presidential election not a referendum on the economy as much as it is on whether the president vetoes NDAA or not… that is what the press/pundits do not want to say because they do not want people to know about the NDAA and Obama’s false image as the people’s president is being exposed for what it is… FAKE… we voted for someone unlike Bush and instead we got a President who has expanded and extended the loss of our civil liberties, caved on most of his campaign promises and now has declared war on the 99% for speaking up and out…

One of the gravest grievances described in the Declaration of Independence was the misuse of standing armies against the colonialists.  Numerous state constitutions declared standing armies a threat to liberty and the U.S. Constitution showed antipathy to militarism. Now, the Congress and President Obama are prepared to turn the military against Americans and allow indefinite military detention without any finding of guilt. If the elites think military force against Americans will quell the revolt of the people they are wrong; it will have the opposite effect and fuel the revolt against the elites.

Border Collie is the first Dog to lead an Occupation

Border collies were bred to herd livestock including sheep. Border Collies are also noted for their intelligence. Occupy protesters are not known for being sheep, so it must be Shelby’s intelligence that prompted Occupy Denver to elect this 3-1/2 year old Border Collie mix as their leader. That and being pressured by Denver Mayor Michael Hancock to name a leader in order “to deal with City and State officials.”

One of the organizers, Al Nesby, nominated Shelby as the group’s leader after filmmaker Michael Moore showed up and rubbed him the wrong way by refusing to follow general assembly rules. Shelby’s bodyguard, filmmaker Peter John Jentsch, was happy to comply and Shelby received a landslide vote.  Shelby maintains a strict protest against leashes and has pawticipated in the Denver Occupation for the past month. Protesters have already made an official request for Shelby to meet with Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper.

Denver politicians are probably scratching their heads wondering who let the dogs out.

But since corporations are now considered people, the Denver Occupiers feel that Shelby is closer to a person than any corporation: She can bleed, she can breed, and she can show emotion. “Either Shelby is a person, or corporations aren’t people,” said a Shelby supporter at the time of her election.

Shelby is getting her paws wet becoming a real political animal. It is expected that she will not condone any of the usual dog-eat-dog tactics.

Shelby exhibits heart, warmth, and an appreciation for the group over personal ambition that Occupy Denver members feel are sorely lacking in the leaders some of them have voted for on national, state, and local levels.

Newly-elected leader Shelby will be leading this Saturday’s Occupy Denver march against Corporate Personhood, and invites all other civic minded dogs (and their leash-holders) to join.

Cici and I would have really enjoyed a Pit Bull dog being named the leader of the Denver Occupation since pit bulls and pit bull mixes are banned in Denver. That would have been a real coup for the breed. It would take a special ambassador for the breed to lead that march.

Is YOUR dog up for becoming the SpokesDog / Leader of the Pack of your local Occupation?  Cici welcomes dogs of ALL breeds to provide leadership. What does YOUR dog occupy most of the time? Tell US Your Story (photos, too). Thanks.

the dog washing of Michael Vick

Must Read:

when you get over casey anthony I’ll get over vick, hah !!!

https://www.facebook.com/notes/jamie-fitzgerald/when-you-get-over-casey-ill-get-over-mikey/10150332476870359

as i sat and listened to patriotic songs on the 4th of july, my heart bled very sad for America…my America… cried and cried… and

what I got is that Michael Vick and Nike are the perfect symbols/ representatives of everything that is wrong with the USA… greed, bottomline idolation, no conscience, violence, no remorse, macho hoopla, hollow, fake religious fervor… perhaps Nike’s soul-less corporate bots are the perfect vehicle for selling Vick’s fake redemption story?

yes, that foul smelling odor coming your way, clouding the very air you breathe that you are holding your nose against is the dog washing of Michael Vick.

we all know how much dogs hate taking baths. well, dog/animal lovers hate getting the same old questions, as if we are the ones who are guilty, yes I am guilty of the crime of pointing out the truth about Michael Vick and his crimes against nature…. so so so very tired tired tired of the sorry excuses, name calling, distractions and  other garbage.  I thought I had it all covered when I wrote Six Wrongs Don’t Make Vick right (I’d say 600 wrongs now)… but apparently there is still more to say on this subject.

Here’s how to deal with the fleas (block, delete, ban, arm yourself with the facts, be polite and show them we got class)…

there really is no defense for the indefensible… so when 200 million pet owners and millions of parents are armed with the facts, what else can Vick’s peeps say?

in the Orwellian world in which we live, where polluters of the most toxic substances routinely greenwash, try to sell consumers on how eco friendly it is to destroy your health, our planet…

Vick’s PR  handlers and Nike bring you the dogwashing of Michael Vick… the washing off the stench of the blood stains with a squeaky clean redemption story… where he talks about lying but still does not confess his lies, lying about lying… the real lies. the meaningful lies. oh yes, he does say that he lied about what he did, professed his innocence when he knew he was guilty. when all of the evidence against him pointed to what he did, he still said no, I’m not guilty. believe him, he is a self-professed liar.

the responses of Vick’s fans have often been puzzling, infuriating and/or tiresome to many animal lovers. Give them the facts and routinely you are called a racist, while they rant about white bitches, told he has paid his dues, made mistakes, we must not judge him/cast stones since we are not without sin, must give him a second chance and we must forgive…on and on and on it goes…  as if we are the ones who committed the crimes he did…instead of we are the ones pointing out the crimes he did that many still do not know about and some refuse to want to hear, denial ain’t just a river in Egypt…

here’s what sticks in our craws:

1. racists calling me a racist is ironic and absurd

yes, I actually voted for Obama, get over it, and defend him even though am not all together happy with all he’s done and not done. There are plenty of deserving black athletes who could / should have gotten the Sportsman of the Year award not Vick. I do not follow sports, esp. not football, all I know about is beach volleyball, go Kerry Walsh and Misty May Treanor !

But race is so NOT NOT NOT the issue. And no, I am not jealous of his success/blood money as it were, either. And I don’t target Vick because he’s famous. Just read my blog posts. Nor do I hate successful black people. I do however despise people getting away with murder just because they’re rich and famous. And tonight when they are miserable lying mothers (Casey Anthony) who many people believe killed her own sweet baby and got a not guilty verdict. Our justice system is so broken.  no, I do NOT condone child abusers, women beaters, or any other criminal or hold a double standard.

2. paid his dues, did his time

when people say ” he did his time!”

Michael Vick “did his time” for Federal Racketeering, he served his prison sentence for Federal Racketeering – ONLY.

The crimes, the heinous acts and crimes of Animal Cruelty – Michael Vick plead “Not Guilty”.

In a brokered Plea Agreement, the charges of Animal Cruelty were dismissed. Thus, unpunished were these crimes, by this man, against humanity.

The known, proven, admitted crimes of murder, rape, and torture of innocent defenseless beings was thrown out – dismissed – in the Plea Agreement.

The crimes in which, Michael Vick, systematically, prepared, planned, participated and executed, repeatedly, against these animals, was left unpunished in the legal justice system.

This is a known public record of fact.

3. he made mistakes… don’t you ever make mistakes? obviously you’re perfect and never make mistakes*

Define mistakes. Of course I make mistakes all the time, every day I make mistakes. However, it has never occurred to me to kill, torture and maim dogs for fun and pleasure and profit.  How many people do you know who have made these kinds of mistakes? And do you want them as neighbors? friends? role models for your children? And do you know that serial killers have long histories of killing animals before killing human beings? Just because Vick has not (yet that we know of) abused or harmed another human, does not mean he should just slide. Why give Vick preferential treatment just because he is rich, famous and can play football? Joe average would still be in jail for a 100 years for Vick’s heinous crimes.

What Vick calls “mistakes” were actually felonies which could have sent him to prison for much longer than the 18 months he spent incarcerated. The fact is, he spent years torturing and killing defenseless animals.

http://www.examiner.com/crime-in-norfolk/convicted-felon-michael-vick-given-award-by-bet-subway

4. must not judge since we are not without sin

so we should just let cannibals do their thing, child abusers molest children, criminals steal our country and it is just fine to allow murderers get away with murder?

5. you don’t believe in second chances?

how many second chances did he give the dogs he murdered for not performing in the ring? NONE.

Love what this guy says:

http://bullmarketfrogs.com/blog/2009/10/hit-vick-feed-a-homeless-pet/

so so so very tired, tired of the ‘Does he deserve a second chance?’ kind of thing,” said Bill Smith, founder and CEO of the shelter, which is near Valley Forge. “Maybe it’s about time that the millions of pit bulls euthanized every year got their second chance.”

“… They’re great dogs,” he said, adding they’ve gotten a terrible stigma “because of people like Michael Vick.”

6.  what about all the good he is doing talking to kids?

He has done nothing other than PR for his image. Nothing more than what he was court ordered to do. And oh yeah, dog fighting has gone up due to him Why? Kids think it is cool to be like him. And hey, he got away with a light sentence, slap on the wrist (I know he thinks it was a rough sentence, pshaaaawww, waa waa waa… close the front door …

 http://whyy.org/cms/news/featured/2010/04/12/raid-shows-the-horror-of-dogfighting/35810

7.  Vick was just a victim of his background, neighborhood, culture, and cultural values.

Uh uh. According to Michael Vick’s father:

more indepth than the other article below, http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/08/23/AR2007082302385.html

Michael Vick’s estranged father, in an interview with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, says he urged his son years ago to quit dogfighting, and dismissed the idea that Vick’s friends were the main instigators of the dogfighting operation.

“I wish people would stop sugarcoating it,” Michael Boddie told the newspaper. “This is Mike’s thing. And he knows it.”

Boddie, 45, who has not talked directly to his son in the last 26½ months, said his son “likes (dogfighting) and he has the capital to have a set up like that.”

Boddie also said in 2001 his son staged dogfights in the garage of the family’s home in Newport News, Va., and kept fighting dogs in the family’s backyard, according to the newspaper.

Boddie told the newspaper he’s speaking out because he’s been hurt by what he says are inaccurate reports that Vick grew up without his father present. “I’ve been drug through the mud,” he said.

He also told the newspaper that federal investigators have not contacted him about dogfighting accusations against his son.

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/football/nfl/falcons/2007-08-23-vick-thursday_N.htm

8.  we must forgive him, don’t you believe in forgiveness? (said with holier than thou attitude)…

and he is redeemed (well, there you have it church, say amen, glory Hallelujah, praise Jesus)

these last two go together. of course, I believe in forgiveness and redemption. But without any admittance of the truth of sins/crimes, there is no remorse. without remorse, no conscience, how can there be anything resembling real redemption/forgiveness???  His PR/handlers are trying to sell this dogwashed story to the public and  gullible fans are eating it up like dogs eat poop. even the reviewers said that his failed 2010 reality show had too much talk of redemption and not enough talk about his crimes. So for people with brains in their heads, the whole/holey angle rings hollow especially since every time Vick opens up his mouth he refutes the redemption story. You can lead a sociopath to pretend he’s sincere but you cannot make him have remorse when he has no conscience. You cannot make him truly redeemable and forgivable.

He says has no regrets except he’s sorry he got caught and he wishes he had gotten a shorter jail sentence…

http://www.comedycentral.com/videos/index.jhtml?videoId=382318&title=michael-vick-s-regrets

and he tells kids that he probably should have known better, just maybe he should have known better, inserts his foot into mouth once again, sheeesh… http://content.usatoday.com/communities/thehuddle/post/2011/07/eagles-michael-vick-speaks-at-youth-football-camp-in-baltimore/1

http://blogs.babble.com/strollerderby/2011/07/01/nike-signs-michael-vick-and-sends-absolute-worst-message-to-children/

Intentionally maiming and then killing dogs is not a mistake. It is a calculated and callous crime. Vick not only funded a dog fighting operation, he also engaged first hand in the cruelty for six years. He personally violated dogs using electrical wire and then threw them into a pool so they were electrocuted. He also executed approximately 8 dogs that did not perform well in ‘testing’ sessions” and killed using various methods, including hanging, drowning, and slamming at least one dog’s body to the ground.
Is executing animals for profit for six years in a row a mistake?

free weekly giveaway ends tomorrow… yurts anyone?

ok, you have one more day, the last few days no one else has submitted any entries… which makes us think that we should give people a shorter amount of time… for the next giveaway, you will have a day or two… Internet time is faster than real time…   we have some wonderful new surprises and resources coming up…

yesterday, while writing about yurts and affordable and alternative housing for my blog for the Seattle newspaper, I came across two cute photos (below)… a dog in a yurt and a couple of llamas in a yurt…since I don’t yet know how to post photos there, and since they are animals, thought I’d post them here for you to enjoy… and if you don’t know and want to know what a yurt is, visit my other blog below (hint: a yurt is a round or circular or dome housing structure used by nomads in Mongolia, Russia and even in the USA)…  am thinking that they will come in handy on some land for the K9 healing center, some yurts for the animals, a yurt for myself, for staff and guests… yurts are in campgrounds across America, there are yurt bed and breakfast inns, and yurts have endured extreme weather such as snow, rain, and heat… they are extremely affordable… portable… and easy to put up, good for emergency relief shelter, nomads, dog kennels, dog weddings, mobile offices, writer’s retreat, artists studio, dog camps, doggie daycare and doggie education centers.  Women writers with dogs retreat and healing center…

If anyone would like to donate land, yurts, expertise and other resources for the doggie healing and education center, please let me know.  we will need to set up a 5013c non-profit status, grants, and donations… am going to announce a Creative Expression contest this week which will help launch and fund the healing center so get in on the ground floor, for the pups.
