Do NOT kill these dogs!

Please share, lend your voice and tell Santa Ana supervisors in Orange County, California not to destroy ANY dog fighting dogs. They are having a meeting in a few days, January 28, and want to just kill all the dogs that have been seized from dog fighting rings. Write them off as dangerous, vicious and be done with the dogs. THIS IS NOT OK.

All of the former Michael Vick dogs are living role models and testimony to the idea that ALL of these dogs deserve a Second Chance at LIFE. It is not the dogs fault that they have been forced to fight other dogs. Penalize the dog fighters not the dogs.

Eight of the former MV dogs are therapy dogs. Many are living in happy, loving homes with kids, other dogs and cats, too thanks to BadRap, Best Friends, Monterey SPCA and all the others that saved their lives and gave them a second chance.
Dog fighting is a CRIME. Punish the dog fighters not their victims…

ACTION ALERT:

Dear Friends of Jonny Justice, Audie, Hector, Handsome Dan & Company. Remember when you helped us send hundreds of copies of ‘The Lost Dogs’ to the Obamas in 2011 to help educate our President about the plight of pit bulls? You can bet you helped seed the anti-BSL statement that came out of the White House during Obama’s second term, and we LOVE you for that. Creative, positive, political action WORKS.

Now we need you again. Do you have eight dollars to spare? The Orange County (CA) Board of Supervisors would like to destroy dogs that come from cruelty (dog fighting) cases in their county. We don’t know why. It could be that they aren’t aware that all dogs are individuals and survivors of terrible backgrounds defy the odds every single day. Please consider sending one or more of the board members a softcover copy of ‘Saving Audie’ – as a way to demonstrate what may be lost if they move forward with their no-mercy policy. If you order from Amazon today or tomorrow, they will get rec’v it in time for their meeting & vote on Jan 28. If you live in Orange County – please speak up. The dogs need you now! Thank you!

Have a heart

Imagine a child born to parents who treat their child as a meal ticket. Parents who make money off of their children. Parents who force their children to fight for their lives every day of life. Parents who keep the children unsocialized, tied up in the backyard, hidden with a heavy chain on their necks, unable to escape. Parents who allow their girl children to be raped at a young age so that they produce more children to be abused. All of the children are terrified, angry and traumatized, some become out of their minds. And one day someone kind comes along and sets the children free and puts the parents in jail. Are the children sent to jail, too? Should the children be killed for being too mean? This is the life of too many pit bulls… and yes, they can be likened to abused and neglected children. When given the love, socialization and care they deserve, they are good dogs. Who is responsible for a child or a dog? Who should be held accountable the child, the dog or the parent?

545108_357570187674615_806688505_n

And Breed Specific Legislation takes innocent children/dogs out of their homes, puts them in doggie jail and kills them because they MIGHT become violent some day. That is like saying one day your child with red hair is going to become a dangerous criminal. Why? Because they have red hair. So with all of the media and political hype and hysteria, you decide to round up all of the red haired people and kill them because one red haired person committed a crime in your neighborhood. Does this make any sense???

36528_298677856919568_165005624_n

And in shelters all across this country (and world), the off spring aka the dogs are held accountable for the wrongdoings of the parents/guardians. And the dogs pay the ultimate price. They are killed for being innocent victims of violent criminals. Meanwhile the dog fighters pay a fine and get a little jail time. What kind of system of justice is this?   Am all for second chances but when the criminals have more rights than those they hurt, then that is just plain wrong.

the ones who are too aggressive and violent (and mean and cruel) are the dog fighting criminals who make money off of the dogs and treat these dogs like garbage. The dogs like the former Vick dogs when given the love and care they deserve become therapy dogs (8 of the former Vick dogs) and just plain regular family dogs (many of the former Vick dogs live with kids, other dogs, cats and more). Jail and punish the dog fighters NOT the dogs. Do we send kids who have been abused to jail or do we send child abusers to jail?  The adults are the responsible person so why punish the kids????  Remember that scene in the movie Good Will Hunting when the shrink played by Robin Williams tells the boy his father’s abuse was NOT his fault.  Rape, child abuse, any kind of violence against a person or animals is NEVER the victim’s fault. It is the abuser’s fault. Just because an abuser has a lot of money does NOT make the abuse right nor should it get them off the hook.

Bless this couple for taking care of fight dogs, the way that they should be treated. There needs to be a lot more folks like this.

We like seeing positive ads with pit bulls, too, more and more every day, yay.

Yes, Vick has a dog

maybe the world is coming to an end…

“…’As a father, it is important to make sure my children develop a healthy relationship with animals.’

‘I want to ensure that my children establish a loving bond and treat all of God’s creatures with kindness and respect,’ he added.

‘Our pet is well cared for and loved as a member of our family.’

‘This is an opportunity to break the cycle. To that end, I will continue to honor my commitment to animal welfare and be an instrument of positive change.’

It is a travesty of justice for M. Vick to have a dog. Why? Read The Lost Dogs book by Jim Gorant.

Vick served time for the federal charges of “Conspiracy to Travel in Interstate Commerce in Aid of Unlawful Activities and to Sponsor a Dog in an Animal Fighting Venture.” And, while his participation in dog fighting and the death by hanging of some of his dogs was a sentencing consideration, he did not serve time for animal cruelty.  He should have been. Should have been banned from animal ownership EVER again.

“You would have to have something deeply wrong with you not to be thoroughly disgusted at the prospect of Michael Vick taking in a pet dog. Decent people feel that this man — who did not merely run a dogfighting ring, but personally hanged dogs, drowned them and beat them to death — should be prevented from getting anywhere near an innocent creature. If I had my way, I’d keep him away from human beings.”

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/douglas-anthony-cooper/michael-vick-and-the-huma_b_1976502.html

“Vick and two associates, Purnell Peace and Quanis Phillips, “thought it was funny to watch the pit bull dogs belonging to Bad Newz Kennels injure or kill the other dogs.” The report also states that the trio executed approximately six dogs by hanging and drowning. The hanging deaths occurred “by placing a nylon cord over a 2×4 that was nailed to two trees located next to the big shed.” The men drowned the others “by putting the dogs’ heads in a five-gallon bucket of water.” Dogs that didn’t perform well were killed. Family pet dogs were placed in the fighting ring as trained pit bulls “caused major injuries” to the pets. And these are just a few of the acts of brutality that Vick participated in.

“Michael Vick tortured many dogs over and over for years. The horrors that these animals were subjected to are unimaginable. And now Vick owns a dog. Do you think someone capable of committing so many unspeakable acts of cruelty against animals can change? Do you think Vick should own a dog?”

http://www.examiner.com/video/new-book-released-on-rescue-rehabilitation-of-michael-vicks-dogs

Who would give him a dog? What have his children been taught?  I hope we are wrong for the sake of the new puppy but we have seen no real repentence, and heard no real apologies.  Does not bode well that Vick kept owning a dog a secret, unwilling to bear the public scrutiny, until he was outted with a twitter photo. We don’t know where the dog came from, its age, its breed or even its name.

“Best Friends is often asked if we think Vick should be allowed to own another dog. While his eligibility for dog ownership is a matter of law, imagine, if you would, what it would be like reading through a potential dog adoption application from Michael Vick:

  • Have you had a dog before? Yes
  • If yes, how many? Lots
  • Do you still have a dog(s)? No
  • If you have had dogs in the past, please let us know their current disposition. Dead or confiscated by federal authorities.
  • If you no longer have other dogs, please let us know what happened to them. Some I sold to dog fighters, some I had my cousin electrocute or shoot, some I personally strangled, drowned or body-slammed to death.
  • Why do you want to get a dog at this time? Because I served my time and kids want a dog.

OK, thank you, Michael. We’ll get back to you on your application.”

“…the pit bulls Vick once owned are making a comeback of their own, though theirs has been a much slower, steadier climb.  Take the case of Little Red. Three years ago, she would race to the nearest corner and cower, her face buried against the wall, at the sight of any human or dog. Or Ellen, who would growl at anyone who came near her, especially if they dared glance over at her food dish.

“Both dogs had such bad problems, experts said, they’d be better off dead.

“These days, though, Little Red wags her tail a mile a minute and is almost inseparable from her new, best buddy – a cattle dog mix named Google. And Ellen, a tannish-brown bundle of energy, still loves her food but loves her visitors even more – smothering them with kisses as soon as they walk through the door.”

Vicktory Dogs video

http://www.badrap.org/vick-dogs

“Despite spending 19 months in prison for running an illegal interstate dog fighting business, Vick hasn’t expressed a shred of empathy toward the dogs he brutalized and killed. And rather than talk about the horrors of dog fighting, he has consistently chosen to focus on the consequences of getting caught. In a nutshell, his actions are self-serving. We’ve seen little remorse and even less compassion. And let’s not forget, he caused unspeakable suffering to hundreds of innocent dogs. Frankly, the ASPCA has serious concerns about Vick’s ability to be a responsible pet parent.”

animals are people, too

Gotta love this list especially #6…

http://www.jdnews.com/articles/disappear-99233-irritations-see.html

6. Sports figures acting badly. Michael Vick shouldn’t be playing football and if that offends you, I’m sorry. We forgive transgressions that would ruin the rest of us because they are famous or talented. Creeps like Vick should just go away, not be awarded with a huge football contract.

Here is my list of things that should be illegal because they make sane people barf, skin crawl and drive animal advocates to rescue time and time again …

1. Michael Vick shouldn’t be playing football. He should not be paid $100 million. This money should be given to pit bull rescues and the dogs he traumatized, some who are still living with the terrifying memories and nightmares of his psychopathy. Read The Lost Dogs by Jim Gorant for more inspiring info about the dogs, the truth about Michael Vick and how they prosecuted him and what he was actually charged with (gambling not bankrolling dog fighting)…  http://badrap-blog.blogspot.com/2010/08/jim-gorant-lost-dogs-our-review.html

2. The morally bankrupt Belfast City Council in Ireland. Return Lennox to his family. Period. End of story.  http://www.northcountrygazette.org/2011/12/31/lennox_next/

3. All absurd and archaic breed bans, breed discrimination and breed specific legislation. No dog should be judged on the basis of how s/he looks or because some people are afraid of dogs and do not want to hold irresponsible owners accountable for their abuse, neglect and cruelty to animals.

4. Homeless pets, homeless people. Kill shelters, what an oxymoron.  Should shelters be allowed to kill animals? An Associated Press poll says that more than seven out of 10 Americans say “No,” unless the animal is suffering. All healthy, normal dogs and cats deserve homes. Adoption centers must replace the so-called humane societies and SPCA’s around the country. Spaying and neutering of animals is mandatory until there are no more homeless pets. Neuter that boy, Spay that girl…   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MWiLfGmBDO0&feature=player_embedded

5. Greedy, ethically challenged animal organizations and their sad ads on TV. Wayne Pacelle, the ASPCA and PETA and other so-called animal rights advocates that called for Michael Vick to have a dog (Humane Society of the United States), who advocate putting healthy animals to sleep (PETA) and all those who call real animal advocates terrorists for wanting NO KILL shelters and to STOP killing and torturing innocent animals.

US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has been keeping files on animal rights activists who conduct undercover investigations of factory farms, and the agency is now recommending that these activists be prosecuted as “terrorists.”    …   In 2006, Congress passed the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act (AETA)   http://occupycorporatism.com/?p=2258

http://www.nathanwinograd.com/?p=8052

(The City of Austin finished 2011 with a 91% rate of lifesaving for dogs and cats, the largest community in the nation to do so. Williamson County, TX finished the year with a 91% rate as well. They join a host of other communities who have crossed the 90% threshold including Allegany County, MD, Arlington, VA, Berkeley, CA, Duluth, MN, Marquette, MI, Reno, NV, Shelby County, KY, and many, many more…)

6. Puppy mills, hoarders and pet stores who sell sick animals and keep animals in horrendous conditions in exchange for money.

7. Animal abusers including dog serial killers, animal rapists and irresponsible pet owners who chain their dogs and/or leave them outside loose 24/7, abandon their animals, neglect their pets, leave their pets to starve, return their pets to the pound because they are moving, suddenly allergic or the puppy barked, refuse to spay/neuter and/or harshly punish their pets. http://www.dogsagainstromney.com/2012/01/did-mitt-romney-drive-through-car-wash.html

8. Television shows, video games and movies that exploit animals and people, police, detective, talk and reality shows that highlight violence, encourage dog fighting, the lowest common denominator, sexually abuse children (Toddlers and Tiaras) and teenagers and otherwise encourage sociopathic behavior.

9. Dog fighting, cock fighting, horse racing and other forms of “sport” that harms animals.

10. Corporations that Experiment on and are toxic to animals, humans and the earth including pet food companies (especially those that use rendered/dead animals and toxic ingredients and chemicals and call this Healthy, Natural or other misleading terms). Monsanto, the Koch brothers empire and the oil, gas, nuclear and coal industries and the entire deathcare industries including the pharmaceutical industry and allopathic medicine.

11. Corporations and fetuses considered people. Animals are lawfully considered sentient beings not property and are endowed with the same rights as human beings.  http://www.ibtimes.com/articles/196469/20110811/mitt-romney-corporations-people-mitt-romney-corporations-citizens-united-legal-personhood.htm

https://celiasue.wordpress.com/2012/01/07/are-dogs-religiousspiritual-beings/

12. All wars for profit (all wars) including the War of Terror and war mongers who destroy countries, animals and people for money. Pray that the Iran war is Over before it officially begins… they are beating the war drums. Getting louder by the day, folks.

http://www.fair.org/index.php?page=4454

Lucky 13. Speaking of rights, ALL civil liberties set forth in the Constitution and Bill of Rights are returned to ALL American citizens. All legislation and bills denying the American people these rights are abolished and the politicians who voted for the Patriot Act, the NDAA and SOPA are recalled and sent to prison along with the Wall Street banksters, the TSA, lobbyists, elite racists and millionaires and billionaires who refuse to pay taxes, and corporate hucksters who ruined the economy and sent American jobs overseas.

New Bill Known As Enemy Expatriation Act Would Allow Government To Strip Citizenship Without Convict

http://www.addictinginfo.org/2012/01/06/new-bill-known-as-enemy-expatriation-act-would-allow-government-to-strip-citizenship-without-conviction/

Congress is considering H. R. 3166 also known as the Enemy Expatriation Act. This bill would give the US government the power to strip Americans of their citizenship without being convicted of being ‘hostile’ against the United States.

Hint:  When Money is Taken OUT of Politics, many of these problems will be resolved.

the dog washing of Michael Vick

Must Read:

when you get over casey anthony I’ll get over vick, hah !!!

https://www.facebook.com/notes/jamie-fitzgerald/when-you-get-over-casey-ill-get-over-mikey/10150332476870359

as i sat and listened to patriotic songs on the 4th of july, my heart bled very sad for America…my America… cried and cried… and

what I got is that Michael Vick and Nike are the perfect symbols/ representatives of everything that is wrong with the USA… greed, bottomline idolation, no conscience, violence, no remorse, macho hoopla, hollow, fake religious fervor… perhaps Nike’s soul-less corporate bots are the perfect vehicle for selling Vick’s fake redemption story?

yes, that foul smelling odor coming your way, clouding the very air you breathe that you are holding your nose against is the dog washing of Michael Vick.

we all know how much dogs hate taking baths. well, dog/animal lovers hate getting the same old questions, as if we are the ones who are guilty, yes I am guilty of the crime of pointing out the truth about Michael Vick and his crimes against nature…. so so so very tired tired tired of the sorry excuses, name calling, distractions and  other garbage.  I thought I had it all covered when I wrote Six Wrongs Don’t Make Vick right (I’d say 600 wrongs now)… but apparently there is still more to say on this subject.

Here’s how to deal with the fleas (block, delete, ban, arm yourself with the facts, be polite and show them we got class)…

there really is no defense for the indefensible… so when 200 million pet owners and millions of parents are armed with the facts, what else can Vick’s peeps say?

in the Orwellian world in which we live, where polluters of the most toxic substances routinely greenwash, try to sell consumers on how eco friendly it is to destroy your health, our planet…

Vick’s PR  handlers and Nike bring you the dogwashing of Michael Vick… the washing off the stench of the blood stains with a squeaky clean redemption story… where he talks about lying but still does not confess his lies, lying about lying… the real lies. the meaningful lies. oh yes, he does say that he lied about what he did, professed his innocence when he knew he was guilty. when all of the evidence against him pointed to what he did, he still said no, I’m not guilty. believe him, he is a self-professed liar.

the responses of Vick’s fans have often been puzzling, infuriating and/or tiresome to many animal lovers. Give them the facts and routinely you are called a racist, while they rant about white bitches, told he has paid his dues, made mistakes, we must not judge him/cast stones since we are not without sin, must give him a second chance and we must forgive…on and on and on it goes…  as if we are the ones who committed the crimes he did…instead of we are the ones pointing out the crimes he did that many still do not know about and some refuse to want to hear, denial ain’t just a river in Egypt…

here’s what sticks in our craws:

1. racists calling me a racist is ironic and absurd

yes, I actually voted for Obama, get over it, and defend him even though am not all together happy with all he’s done and not done. There are plenty of deserving black athletes who could / should have gotten the Sportsman of the Year award not Vick. I do not follow sports, esp. not football, all I know about is beach volleyball, go Kerry Walsh and Misty May Treanor !

But race is so NOT NOT NOT the issue. And no, I am not jealous of his success/blood money as it were, either. And I don’t target Vick because he’s famous. Just read my blog posts. Nor do I hate successful black people. I do however despise people getting away with murder just because they’re rich and famous. And tonight when they are miserable lying mothers (Casey Anthony) who many people believe killed her own sweet baby and got a not guilty verdict. Our justice system is so broken.  no, I do NOT condone child abusers, women beaters, or any other criminal or hold a double standard.

2. paid his dues, did his time

when people say ” he did his time!”

Michael Vick “did his time” for Federal Racketeering, he served his prison sentence for Federal Racketeering – ONLY.

The crimes, the heinous acts and crimes of Animal Cruelty – Michael Vick plead “Not Guilty”.

In a brokered Plea Agreement, the charges of Animal Cruelty were dismissed. Thus, unpunished were these crimes, by this man, against humanity.

The known, proven, admitted crimes of murder, rape, and torture of innocent defenseless beings was thrown out – dismissed – in the Plea Agreement.

The crimes in which, Michael Vick, systematically, prepared, planned, participated and executed, repeatedly, against these animals, was left unpunished in the legal justice system.

This is a known public record of fact.

3. he made mistakes… don’t you ever make mistakes? obviously you’re perfect and never make mistakes*

Define mistakes. Of course I make mistakes all the time, every day I make mistakes. However, it has never occurred to me to kill, torture and maim dogs for fun and pleasure and profit.  How many people do you know who have made these kinds of mistakes? And do you want them as neighbors? friends? role models for your children? And do you know that serial killers have long histories of killing animals before killing human beings? Just because Vick has not (yet that we know of) abused or harmed another human, does not mean he should just slide. Why give Vick preferential treatment just because he is rich, famous and can play football? Joe average would still be in jail for a 100 years for Vick’s heinous crimes.

What Vick calls “mistakes” were actually felonies which could have sent him to prison for much longer than the 18 months he spent incarcerated. The fact is, he spent years torturing and killing defenseless animals.

http://www.examiner.com/crime-in-norfolk/convicted-felon-michael-vick-given-award-by-bet-subway

4. must not judge since we are not without sin

so we should just let cannibals do their thing, child abusers molest children, criminals steal our country and it is just fine to allow murderers get away with murder?

5. you don’t believe in second chances?

how many second chances did he give the dogs he murdered for not performing in the ring? NONE.

Love what this guy says:

http://bullmarketfrogs.com/blog/2009/10/hit-vick-feed-a-homeless-pet/

so so so very tired, tired of the ‘Does he deserve a second chance?’ kind of thing,” said Bill Smith, founder and CEO of the shelter, which is near Valley Forge. “Maybe it’s about time that the millions of pit bulls euthanized every year got their second chance.”

“… They’re great dogs,” he said, adding they’ve gotten a terrible stigma “because of people like Michael Vick.”

6.  what about all the good he is doing talking to kids?

He has done nothing other than PR for his image. Nothing more than what he was court ordered to do. And oh yeah, dog fighting has gone up due to him Why? Kids think it is cool to be like him. And hey, he got away with a light sentence, slap on the wrist (I know he thinks it was a rough sentence, pshaaaawww, waa waa waa… close the front door …

 http://whyy.org/cms/news/featured/2010/04/12/raid-shows-the-horror-of-dogfighting/35810

7.  Vick was just a victim of his background, neighborhood, culture, and cultural values.

Uh uh. According to Michael Vick’s father:

more indepth than the other article below, http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/08/23/AR2007082302385.html

Michael Vick’s estranged father, in an interview with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, says he urged his son years ago to quit dogfighting, and dismissed the idea that Vick’s friends were the main instigators of the dogfighting operation.

“I wish people would stop sugarcoating it,” Michael Boddie told the newspaper. “This is Mike’s thing. And he knows it.”

Boddie, 45, who has not talked directly to his son in the last 26½ months, said his son “likes (dogfighting) and he has the capital to have a set up like that.”

Boddie also said in 2001 his son staged dogfights in the garage of the family’s home in Newport News, Va., and kept fighting dogs in the family’s backyard, according to the newspaper.

Boddie told the newspaper he’s speaking out because he’s been hurt by what he says are inaccurate reports that Vick grew up without his father present. “I’ve been drug through the mud,” he said.

He also told the newspaper that federal investigators have not contacted him about dogfighting accusations against his son.

8.  we must forgive him, don’t you believe in forgiveness? (said with holier than thou attitude)…

and he is redeemed (well, there you have it church, say amen, glory Hallelujah, praise Jesus)

these last two go together. of course, I believe in forgiveness and redemption. But without any admittance of the truth of sins/crimes, there is no remorse. without remorse, no conscience, how can there be anything resembling real redemption/forgiveness???  His PR/handlers are trying to sell this dogwashed story to the public and  gullible fans are eating it up like dogs eat poop. even the reviewers said that his failed 2010 reality show had too much talk of redemption and not enough talk about his crimes. So for people with brains in their heads, the whole/holey angle rings hollow especially since every time Vick opens up his mouth he refutes the redemption story. You can lead a sociopath to pretend he’s sincere but you cannot make him have remorse when he has no conscience. You cannot make him truly redeemable and forgivable.

He says has no regrets except he’s sorry he got caught and he wishes he had gotten a shorter jail sentence…

why parents should boycott Nike:

Intentionally maiming and then killing dogs is not a mistake. It is a calculated and callous crime. Vick not only funded a dog fighting operation, he also engaged first hand in the cruelty for six years. He personally violated dogs using electrical wire and then threw them into a pool so they were electrocuted. He also executed approximately 8 dogs that did not perform well in ‘testing’ sessions” and killed using various methods, including hanging, drowning, and slamming at least one dog’s body to the ground.
Is executing animals for profit for six years in a row a mistake?

Mean Dogs Not

The Lost Dogs book written by Jim Gorant is a powerful cannot put it down page turner. Read with heart held in hands, afraid to breathe, pet lovers cannot help but share the deep sadness and impact of the blood soaked brutality forced upon 51 innocent dogs portrayed on every page and the scars most still bear to this day. It is not an easy task to write a book like this but Gorant does so superbly. The way he interweaves the stories of the little brown dog, the little red dog and other dogs from the dog’s perspective, giving descriptions of the places intertwined with the facts of how the case was built against NFL football player Michael Vick and Michael Vick’s Bad Newz Kennels is just plain riveting.

These dogs faced a triple whammy: they were unsocialized, heavily chained up 24/7, with inhumane contact as their normal. They did not know the basics of being an average house pet. On top of that, they were cruelly traumatized by their vicious training at Bad Newz and bore the pit bull stigma. Considered violent “biting machine menaces” ready to kill at any time, these dogs were truly lost in a nightmarish reality not of their own making. So terrified of people, places and normal things we take for granted, some became catatonic and afraid of everything. They would hunker down and hide. For some reason, a lot of the dogs had issues with doorways and crossing any threshold was nearly impossible.  They did not even know what to do with toys.  Many were clumsy, uncoordinated puppylike in grown up dog bodies.

Of all of the dogs, only one had to be euthanized due to her being so overbred, forced to bear puppies, that she lost her mind. A couple of others were put down due to illness.

Ginger, Red and Stella were taken in by the Monterey SPCA…  Update: Red has since passed from cancer.  My original post about my visit to the SPCA to meet the dogs.  https://celiasue.wordpress.com/2009/08/22/survivor-dogs/

There was a joke on Twitter recently about Vick being injured and unable to play so now he should be put down.  One wonders what kind of a monster could not only order the deaths of dogs by electocution and drowning but also kill dogs with his own bare hands. Dogs were murdered because they would not fight and/or did not pass muster in the fighting ring.

But this book is not about Vick. The Lost Dogs story proves without a shadow of a doubt that pit bulls are not the dogs society has been brainwashed to believe they are. Their heroic survival makes their recovery, redemption and rehabilitation all the more remarkable. Even the animal rights groups and experts expected that maybe 10% of the dogs, five of the dogs would become adoptable. That many of the dogs have not only passed the Basic Obedience course training but several have gone on to become therapy dogs, earned their Canine Good Citizen certificates and are thriving in new homes with children, other dogs and cats, is nothing short of a miracle and a testament to the pit bull’s spirit. Loyal, loving goofballs with seemingly boundless optimism, most adore children and people as they were bred to do.   And the patience, compassion and persistence of their caretakers is an utter inspiration. Love truly does conquer all.

Hector, one of the Lost dogs, at the recent No More Homeless Pets conference, from Best Friends…not a great photo but a great dog !!!
