What Your Dog Wants for the Holidays

Has your doggie been naughty or nice this year? Does Santa Paws keep track?  What would your dog tell Santa s/he wants this year????

cici-ho-ho-ho

Cici is ALWAYS GOOD WHEN SHE SLEEPS !!!!  And when she is naughty, she does not mean to be. It is just too tempting to do things that I do not want her to do, that’s all.

1. Not to be dressed up in costumes, treated like a baby, carried around in a hand bag or painted and groomed and dyed to look un-doglike.

2. To be treated like a dog (belly rubs).

3. Join in the Feast: Endless treats and food.

4. Lots of time to be a dog  (zooooomies)

5.  Much time to play with other dogs, sniff the neighborhood, and chase small animals.

6. Real live cats, squirrels and/or bunnies to run after

7.    Lots of time rolling on back scratching and showing off belly.

photo-725

8.  Lots of bones, toys (squeakies), ropes, and/or pillows to chew on.

9.  Lick lick lick lick lick lick lick, much time to slobber.

10.  Nap time, woof woof woof woof woof !

Photo-597-e1296317967861

a dog has got to dream about all of the above, right?

Got Squeaks?

wow, this was a very difficult box to open but once we did, Cici and I were beyond words excited and delighted, woof woof woof

we have received and reviewed a few of these monthly boxes and liked them. But this one has the MOST goodies of them all !!! Plus, you can customize the boxes. And  subscriptions start at $32/mo and go up to $61 depending on how many pets in your PawPack and how many months you commit to upfront.

Cici has been chewing on an old slipper that is threads basically, not much left to chew on (well, besides the other toys she chewed open to get to the squeaker in a few minutes)

and in this pawbox, are a few toys that she is chewing on that last longer than a few minutes…

happy dog !!!!

And these toys and treats are easy to take with you when you travel with your pooch. Keeps them busy chewing away.

Holiday gift guide 2013

The holiday season is truly UPON us, jack frost nipping at our paws… chanukah and thanksgiving arrived around the same time this year.

Will you buy your cat or dog a gift for the holidays? How about a gift for your dog walker, pet sitter, pet rescuer or for that oh so very special pet parent/guardian in your life?

Here are a few suggested gifts for your four legged friends and a few human gifts, too.

1. A happy dog box:   Cici received a box filled with toys and treats and your dog can too. This should be called the happy people and dog box because it lasts for hours/days and makes everyone happy. There was a very nice selection and assortment of treats.

Monster mouth toy… I have never seen her play with a toy for as long as this one. You can hide treats inside the mouth and your dog will enjoy finding them.

Curly chew bully stick

Waste bag container

Jump your bones kangaroo treats

Cloud star hip and joint treats, bacon and cheese, grain free

Woofables gourmet dog cookies

Each monthly box, worth over $30, comes packed with high-quality dog treats, toys, and accessories specially selected for canine health and well-being.

You can find out more info at the link below:

 https://www.happydogbox.com/welcome?ex=52a4b7beba4b426515000a40

2.  Lupine leash and harness. Cici received two sets that consisted of a step-in harness, leash and collar, one 3/4 wide and 1 inch wide. We LOVE THEM except the clasp is hard to open.

Lupine Collars and Leashes has been selling collars since 1991. They have developed a very successful line of woven patterned nylon collars, leashes and harnesses for dogs and cats. Not only are there great designs but the quality of the products is exceptional.   They even offer a lifetime Even if Chewed Guarantee, which really means that they will replace any product, no matter how or when it was damaged–even if chewed!! And no receipt or shipping fee required! In addition, all the products are made in New Hampshire.

Please visit the website (www.lupinepet.com)

3. Bravo raw food

Cici scarfed up the raw turkey and was licking the bowl and the floor clean, which means she really really loved the food. She was begging for more.

I like the ingredients…

The one drawback is that I wish it came in burgers rather than a big huge loaf because I had to defrost the entire thing, and then feed it to her quickly, so 1/4 of the loaf the first day which was too much food in one day… and too much food in a week…

4. Spring natural dog food

http://www.springnaturals.com/

GF-TurkeyBag

Turkey, chickpeas, peas, dried eggs, chicken fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols), dicalcium phosphate, sun-cured alfalfa, flaxseed, sweet potatoes, natural flavors, salt, spinach, tomato pomace, calcium carbonate, blueberries, cranberries, apricots, carrots, potassium chloride, zinc proteinate, iron proteinate, copper proteinate, manganese proteinate, sodium selenite, calcium iodate, vitamin E supplement, thiamine mononitrate, niacin supplement, calcium pantothenate, biotin, vitamin A supplement, riboflavin supplement, vitamin B12 supplement, pyridoxine hydrochloride, vitamin D3 supplement, folic acid, chicory root extract, dandelion greens, mixed tocopherols (preservative), rosemary extract, choline chloride.

Every recipe is made in the USA.

5.  Savannah Bee Doggie and Me Balm

Sweetness from your pet deserves sweetness from the hive. All natural beeswax pulls moisture from the air and feeds the skin while providing a protective barrier from the elements. Subtle scents of Clary Sage and Basil are said to calm, soothe, and focus your pet.

Doggie and Me Balm is supposed to be good for pet owners, too. Use it on dry human elbows, hands, knees and heels. Feels soft and soothing. Doggie and Me Balm is made with 100% all natural ingredients. Has a kind of earthy herbal smell. Comes in a deodorant type looking jar or a candle jar without the wick.

6. Kurgo Auto barrier

Keep Fido in her place

Screen shot 2013-11-18 at 1.34.55 PM

Cici loves to jump into the driver’s seat when I run into the store. I come back to find you-know-who drooling on the steering wheel and getting the front seat all hairy.

Here is where the Backseat Barrier™ comes in. Super stylish, this cloth barrier attaches to the back of your front seats, creating a soft wall between you and Fido…blocking that little space above your center console. She can still sit and peer through the mesh top; you can even reach back for a scratch if necessary. Most importantly, this barrier helps to keep you distraction free while driving, and keeps your pup safely out of the front of the car.

This products is versatile and simple to install and remove. See for yourself how just a tiny bit of separation makes you a better puppy parent and driver.

  • Protects passengers and cargo from roaming dogs
  • Protects dog from launching into the front during quick stops
  • No need to remove when passengers or cargo are in backseat
  • Front seat stays clean of dog hair
  • Universal fit for most vehicles from a compact to a SUV (does not accommodate 2 door cars or minivans)
  • Simple installation / removal

7. Perfect leash

Similar to the stereotypes people use about pit bulls, when I first saw The Perfect Leash, all plastic, and I thought it was one of those leashes with the retractable line, I was not impressed, but then I Looked Further and actually tried out the leash rather than base my review upon false premises.  I liked the way it kept Cici from pulling me down the street. Unfortunately, Cici lost the Walker leash so I cannot use it anymore.

Designed with both the dog and human in mind, the flexible Perfect Leash makes a great gift for dog owners who want to bring comfort and enjoyment back to their walks.

The Perfect Leash line of pet accessories includes a full-length dog walking leash (the Walker) that suits large and small dogs alike. Made of a proprietary polyurethane formula, the Walker’s flexibility provides an enjoyable walking experience for both the dog and handler. The ergonomically designed, patented, comfort grip handle is designed with adults and children in mind, so every family member can walk the family dog with ease, confidence and comfort.  Unlike cloth leashes, the Perfect Leash is odor resistant and easy to clean.

The Walker is the only full-stretch dog leash on the market! Its high flex capability provides an enjoyable walking experience for both dog and handler. The ergonomically designed, patented, comfort grip handle is designed with adults and children in mind, so every family member can walk your dog with ease, confidence and comfort. Beautiful Old Dogs

This beautifully illustrated book features 44 color photographs of senior dogs taken by the late photographer Garry Gross and edited by David Tabatsky. An incredible tribute to the souls of elderly canines.

In BEAUTIFUL OLD DOGS edited by David Tabatsky, photographs by Garry Gross (St. Martin’s Press; on sale 11/5) the relationship between humans and dogs are explored in over 44 stunning color photographs from Gross and through short essays and poems from a range of writers, including Dean Koontz, Anna Quindlen, Doris Day and Marlo Thomas.

In BEAUTIFUL OLD DOGS, Gross showcases the beauty and soul of every dog he photographed, though it was the older, more senior dogs that most fascinated him. After retiring from the world of fashion photography, Gross established Dog Trainers of New York, a highly successful dog training business that has helped thousands of dogs enjoy better lives with their families and shortly thereafter decided to combine his two passions: photography and dogs.

Shake

Shake is a heartwarming collection of sixty-one silly dogs caught in mid-shake. This graphic photo book by award-winning internally recognized photographer Carli Davidson shows how funny dogs look caught with: hair wild, eyes darting, ears and jowls flopping every which way. You’ve never seen dogs looking like this.

A few years ago Carli Davidson was a volunteer at dog shelters. In 2010, she began photographing the rescue dogs in mid-motion, capturing their movements at a thirteen-thousandth of a second. She called the project Shake and posted a few pictures on Facebook—they quickly went viral, and she was covered on Huffington Post, The New York Times, and Vanity Fair Italy, just to name a few. In a 90-day period her site spiked to 8.5 million views.

One hundred adorable models posed for the book. Sixty-one of them, including Scooby the Rottweiler, Greta the Shi Tzu, Twinkie the Jack Russell Terrier, and the famous, mixed-breed Ramen Noodle were selected. Two photographs of each dog are featured side-by-side in the book to capture the motion of their shakes. One photo shows the dog beginning to turn; the other shows its wild hair and fabulous facial expression mid-twist. Many of the dogs are shaking off water and the high quality of the photo shows the droplets as well.

9. Do you brush your dog’s teeth? Nah. Don’t worry, you’re not alone. More than 60% of dog owners never brush their dog’s teeth. The main reason is that it’s just too difficult.

To help improve the state of canine oral hygiene Kissable has launched two new ‘Brushless’ Dental Solutions to make dental care easy for the owner and painless for the pooch. Instant Fresh Breath Foam adheres to teeth to gently clean, sanitize and loosen plaque build-up without using a toothbrush!  Oral Care Water Additive is a super-easy-to-administer liquid. Just add a capful to your pet’s water. No toothbrush required.

Kissable-Nov-ad_05

Instant Fresh Breath Foam

This all natural breath foamer combines the deodorizing powers of baking soda and peppermint with the anti-bacterial power of aloe vera. All promote excellent oral cleanliness which results in fresher breath. The sweet-tasting minty foam immediately adheres to teeth to gently clean, sanitize and loosen plaque build-up without using a toothbrush| 8oz

Oral Care Water Additive

Helps loosen plaque build-up and freshens breath while your pet drinks from the water bowl. Just add a capful to your pet’s drinking water when you refill the bowl and the ingredients in the product do the rest. When the pet drinks from their water bowl, the liquid will pass over the teeth and gums leaving behind ingredients that promote fresh breath and oral cleanliness| 16oz

I put the foam into her mouth. She gave me clenched teeth mouth, which was perfect, i moved her lip and put the foam on her teeth, used my fingers and rubbed it on.  i give her water with her food so not sure how to make that work … smells nice and pepperminty… Cici in general has pretty good breath for a dog, because I feed her high quality foods and treats, no kibble… raw foods and still it is nice to be able to give your dog a sweet smelling minty fresh mouth.

Cats and cows and bells, oh my

The thing about both of these products are they are both equally good for use when traveing with your pet and at home. You can take them along with you on a trip, no muss, no fuss.

And these toys are just so doggone cute. Cici has been very gentle with chewing hers up, too… She has received the cat and the elephant and we have been playing tug of war with the cat. I have not allowed her to just chew it up on her own because it’s just so darned cute and it has a squeaky inside.  Kinda fragile, unlike most dog toys, but one of our favorites.  When you get one, be sure to supervise your dog so that they do not swallow the squeaky or other stuffing.

The Monkeez Makes a Difference pet toys feature a wide-variety of squeaky characters, including cats, alligators, monkeys, cows, dogs, elephants, frogs and dog bones. Each toy retails for $7.49.

750-cat-squeaky-pet-toy

In addition to pet toys, Monkeez Makes a Difference features kid-friendly
toys and tools that teach children to give back, including the best-selling
Genuine Monkeez and FriendsT plush characters, online games, real-life Do
Good challenges and a special 10% donation on each child’s behalf to one of
three nationally renowned charities of his or her choice including Best Friends Animal Society.

“There are so many children, families and animals in need not only around
the world, but in our own communities,” Chrysti Carol Propes, director
of Monkeez Makes a Difference says. “Parents are looking
for ways to teach the values of thinking of others and believing every
person can make a difference, and Monkeez Makes a Difference fulfills that
need in a unique and interactive way. On behalf of the entire Propes family,
we believe that even though they may be small, kids can make a big
difference and by creating opportunities like Monkeez Makes a Difference, we
can instill philanthropic values to last a lifetime.”

There are more than 90 plush designs in multiple sizes to choose from, including monkeys, owls, bears, lions, dogs, cats, pigs, cows, octopuses, panda bears, kangaroos, turtles,
koalas, alligators, hedgehogs, elephants, hippos, zebras, frogs, bunnies and
raccoons. Each specially marked character comes with a unique online game
activation code on the tag.

For more info, go to:  http://b2c.monkeezandfriends.com/category/149-dog-toys.aspx

Another adorable product is the PoochieBells®, the original dog doorbell… It is a training tool. Cici is already potty/house trained, she is six years old. And I could see where the Poochie Bells could be a very useful tool for a dog / puppy who is learning and maybe not vocal nor persistent about their needs. All you have to do is train them to touch the bells to alert you that they want to go outside. Of course, hang the bells onto the door and voila. Instant alarm system. What I like about them is they are pretty, useful, and the bells have a nice sound and there are enough of the bells so that you would definitely hear them go ring a ding ding… but in a nice way.

Each PoochieBell comes with simple, clear training instructions.

PoochieBells are for any age, size or breed.

Chew on

Dog toys keep your dog occupied when you’re not around, and provide an outlet for energy and teach your dog and entertainment. Interactive dog toys with treats let dogs solve problems on their own and keep the mind and paws and mouth busy.

the Dog Miracle Puzzle from Nina Ottosson. This durable, cleverly constructed puzzle lets dogs seek out concealed treats by trying to move, lift or push aside durable, stackable bricks with their paw or nose. By changing the placement of the puzzle bricks and where the treats are concealed, pet parents can decide how difficult the game is going to be. The number of ways the bricks and hidden treats can be rearranged is virtually endless!

http://www.companyofanimals.us/products/toys-and-games/nina-ottosson-games/nina-ottosson-interactive-plastic-toy-dog-miracle

Cici was all gung ho for finding treats and eating them. She tore the bricks apart looking for them. Then she started chewing on the plastic bricks and I had to take the game away from her. Thankfully, I was there to supervise her. I would NOT advise leaving this toy alone with your dog for any length of time in case your dog enjoys chewing plastic (or anything she can get her paws/teeth on) as much as Cici does.

Star Spinner by Kyjen

Dog games develop cognitive ability in a fun way.

Enrichment toys were first implemented in zoos to eliminate boredom of captive animals. Every well-balanced animal needs stimulation and enrichment. Among the methods used to create stimulating environments are food puzzles. They encourage animals to interact with their surroundings while foraging for food. This allows them to use natural instincts that would help them survive in the wild…

http://www.kyjen.com/puzzle/

Again, Cici looked for the treats, was able to find them and within 2 minutes, she was done. There was no challenge for her. Maybe she has a mouth that just wants to chew and lick all of the time. Obsessed.  Her mouth keeps going and going and going.

I think the best “toys” for Cici are ones she can chew on…

and we finally found something safe she can chew on for hours and that lasts and lasts and lasts…  we tried Himalayan chews and she ate one in 10 minutes. I usually freeze soup bones but worry about her chomping off sharp pieces and swallowing them.  the antler does not do any of that. The antler does not break apart easily nor splinter.

The antlers are best for dogs that love to chew and aren’t picky…they keep your dog busy and out of trouble and will help to keep her teeth clean. The antler dog chews come right out of nature and are completely unprocessed.

  • Long-Lasting: Antler chews are long-lasting. They last much longer than bully sticks or chews made of compacted starch or rawhide.
  • Safe chewing: Deer antlers for dogs are much less likely to chip or splinter when they are being chewed than processed bones. The chewing action grinds the antler chew down slowly.
  • Healthy: Chew antlers contain many beneficial nutrients and nothing artificial.

  • Odor-Free: Antlers have virtually no odor or residue to get on your carpet or furniture.

  • Variety: Antler chews vary in shape, thickness and color. A benefit of purchasing multiple antlers for your dog is that no two are alike and your dog will enjoy the variety in his chews.
  • Antlers from Pet Expertise are the best quality: As antlers for dog chews are getting more popular and difficult to source, some other antler chew sellers are offering low quality, old, chalky, antler that is likely to splinter and crack. Other sellers offer antlers that are split down the center which can cause the antler to dry out quickly and become brittle. Rest assured that Pet Expertise antler is grade A, fresh antler from the USA only and will continue to be!
  • Antlers from Pet Expertise are economical: Pet Expertise was the first online retailer to offer high-quality, large antler chews and have been offering them since 2005 (they are their biggest seller.
  • Safe Chewing Hint: When giving your dog an antler (or any) dog chew, their trainer recommends the following: Supervise your dog. Do not allow your dog to attempt to break the chew in half with his back teeth. Do not allow your dog to consume more than 1/2″ to 1″ per day. If you need to get the antler away from your dog and he doesn’t know “drop it”, you can trade him for a tasty treat such as a piece of meat or cheese.

This is the XL. They are $16.75
http://www.petexpertise.com/dog-toys/antler-chews.html

clearly, Cici’s bliss is chewing an antler…  she has chewed on this one for the last few days, about 2 hours a day and there is no sign that this antler is any worse for the wear and tear of her chewing. She will have many more hours to enjoy this antler.  If/when we travel, I would take an antler with us for her to enjoy while I was driving.  HIGHLY RECOMMEND.   Four paws up !!!
